Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he\u2019s aware that there are farmers in the country involved in the stealing of water by tampering with APUA\u2019s equipment.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m aware that there\u2019s some farmers, what they do is that they get government water but they screw off the metre and by so doing, they\u2019re able to reduce the cost of water,\u201d the Prime Minister explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is what you call water theft.\u201d<\/p>

According to Prime Minister Browne, one of the country\u2019s well-known farmers is the one \u201cchampioning\u201d the issue of a conflict of interest as he ventures into farming and builds a water catchment.<\/p>

\u201cI want him to tell the people of Antigua and Barbuda if he\u2019s one of the farmers who screws off his metre on his farm in order to thief water. And it\u2019s a question I\u2019m asking, I\u2019m not accusing him of anything,\u201d the Prime Minister clarified.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I\u2019m saying here is I cannot subject myself to that type of behaviour in which I have to go and screw off a metre as Prime Minister of this country to thief water to run a farm.<\/p>

\u201cAnd they can\u2019t say that the government is not assisting farmers. We\u2019re going the extra mile, we\u2019re building dams for the farmers. There\u2019s one that we just completed at Sandersons. My understanding is that dam there holds up to maybe 50 million gallons of water,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
