The Senate on Friday voted to suspend the part of the Citizenship by Investment (CIP) Act, which would prevent applicants from losing citizenship because of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>

The change will allow the Minister with responsibility for the CIP, powers to pardon applicants who have not visited the country within five years as part of their citizenship agreement.<\/p>\n

The amendment ensures that applicants under the programme do not lose their citizenship if they do not spend at least 35 days in Antigua and Barbuda during the period of five calendar years after their registration.<\/p>

It authorizes the Minister to make a discretionary decision on whether a person should be granted citizenship if they\u2019re unable to visit the country for at least five days.<\/p>
