In anticipation of the reopening of the 2020-2021 tourist season the Antigua a& Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI) in collaboration with the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association will be facilitating two Professional Development Courses (PDC) \u2013 Bartending 101 and Food & Beverage Cost Control.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Executive Director at the ABHTI Ruthlyn Matthias noted \u201cat the institute we definitely support the professional and continued development of persons in the hospitality industry. We are hoping that by offering these courses individuals will be better equipped to serve in the industry whether as a hotel worker or an entrepreneur.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthias also spoke to the fact that although the Covid-19 pandemic negatively impacted the hospitality and tourism industry, restaurants, bars and other businesses of that nature have now reopened and most hotels will be reopening in October.\u00a0 This she said \u201cmakes now the perfect time for persons to pursue some level of professional development, since many persons may be awaiting calls to return to the workforce or who may wish to reopen their own businesses or even start on an entrepreneurship journey.\u201d<\/p>

It must be noted that the ABHTA is working collaboratively with the Institute to promote the courses and encourage persons to take advantage of the opportunity \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>by offering six grants \u2013 three for Bartending 101 and three for Food & Beverage Cost Control \u2013 to applicants who are not only desirous of taking the course, but those who are most deserving.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cWe are very happy to be partnering with the ABHTI, once again, to assist six individuals who are not financially able and are deserving, to gain invaluable knowledge and training in their respective areas,\u201d Executive Director of the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association Patrice Christian-Simon, said.<\/p>\n

She went on to note that \u201cover the last few years the ABHTA has awarded scholarships for persons to pursue Associate Degrees at the institute, but this year, due to the pandemic, the Association is not in a position to do so.<\/p>

\u201cNevertheless, the ABHTA is about ensuring that those in the hospitality business are reflective of the best Antigua & Barbuda has to offer, so we are pleased to contribute in this way. We are even more excited to see the many emerging businesses that have been formed out of the pandemic, and courses such as these are a positive step in ensuring that businesses have a great foundation for growth and survival.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both organizations plan to continue the collaboration in an effort to offer other professional development courses relevant to the current hospitality climate and to ensure that persons are trained to give excellence in the industry.<\/p>
