More than 100 LIAT employees in the region have not been paid in four months.<\/p>

This was highlighted by Deputy General Secretary of the Barbados Workers\u2019 Union Dwaine Paul as he highlighted some of the impacts of COVID-19 on the workers of the aviation sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government of Antigua, through the appointment Administrator, has indicated to the staff and the trade unions that they will be paying the staff 50 per cent of their wages for the month of July only,\u201d Paul said<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThere is no discussion to date with the administrator or from any of the other shareholders as to how those other outstanding wages will be paid to the LIAT workers.\u201d<\/p>

Paul also reveals that Barbados-based employees of the airline have now been laid off and are therefore able to claim unemployment.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0 said government has pledged that measures put in place to mitigate the impact of the pandemic will be made available to all workers who operate from Barbados, including pilots and cabin crew who are not taxpayers or contributors to the national insurance scheme.<\/p>
