An illegal coastal structure has been removed from the Mamora Bay area located within the boundaries of the national parks in Antigua.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/b><\/p>

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Heavy duty equipment rolled into the area on Wednesday 5th<\/sup>\u00a0August and destroyed the structure as a result of the collaborative efforts of the Development Control Authority (DCA) and the Nelson\u2019s Dockyard National Park.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u> \"\"<\/u><\/p>\n

The attention of the National Park was drawn to construction work on an Infinity plunge pool, which did not benefit from the requisite approval as required by the National Parks Act of 1985, Section 5 and the NPA Regulations of 2012.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Part of the foundation of the pool was constructed in the water and had it gone ahead would have resulted in significant changes to the coastal dynamics of the area.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

The homeowner was found to be in violation of established statutes and left the management of the Nelson\u2019s Dockyard National Park with no choice but to seek the support and intervention of the DCA in removing the structure.\u00a0\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be grateful to the DCA for its speedy response and assertive action in dealing with this blatant violation,\u201d stated Parks Commissioner Ann Marie Martin.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cThe law and the NPA regulations are quite clear. Developers, landowners and residents should not have to be reminded that permission is required prior to the commencement of any development activity in the national park,\u201d Mrs. Martin affirmed.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Meantime Deputy Town and Country Planner Clement Antonio stated the DCA remains constant in its vigilance against violations of the provisions of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Physical Planning Act.\u00a0<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>
