Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has accused ministers in the Cabinet of Antigua & Barbuda of throwing parties in contravention of covid-19 rules.<\/p>\n

The current state of emergency restricts social gatherings including parties but permits gatherings for other functions like church, once there is adherence to social distancing protocols.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Pringle told debate on the extension of the state of emergency for 90 more days that the government should not seek to give the impression of massive breaches to the safety and prevention measures by ordinary residents.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He said the government’s approach is hypocritical since they are the ones at fault.<\/p>\n

“How can we be so hypocritical to come here and let it seem like the people of Antigua & Barbuda are not adhering to the protocols when you are seeking ministers having parties.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Pringle said one Member of Parliament held two big parties recently.<\/p>\n

This week 16 young people were fined for a social gathering. The police also brought charges against residents for not wearing masks.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He said some covid-19 protocols are “in many cases contradictory,” making reference to an order approving buses to run at full capacity.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Opposition Leader said he would not support the state of emergency unless issues relating to quarantine, the covid-19 dashboard information and inconsistencies with how businesses can operate.<\/p>\n

Pringle says he does not support the continued imposition of the curfew because he does little to control the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n

He said the any extension of the state of emergency must be based on scientific information on how the virus is spreading.<\/p>\n
