Four persons were convicted after appearing in court on Thursday 23<\/span>rd<\/sup><\/span> July 2020 on charges of Illegal Dumping; a serious offence in the Litter Control and Prevention Act 2019. <\/span><\/p>

The first case was that of Shawn McKenzie who plead guilty to illegal dumping in Denfields. He has been ordered to pay three thousand dollars or spend six months in prison if he defaults. <\/span><\/p>\n

Carol Bailey also plead guilty to illegally dumping in Denfields and has been ordered to pay three thousand dollars or spend six months in prison if he defaults. \u00a0Bailey has since paid the fine. <\/span><\/p>

In addition, Steve Hurst and Everton Burkes also plead guilty to illegally dumping in Freetown and Side Hill respectively. \u00a0They were both ordered to work with the National Solid Waste Management Authority for a period of 6 months by providing trucking service. They will spend six months in prison if they default.<\/span><\/p>

These judgements were handed down by Chief Magistrate, Joanne Walsh.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two other illegal dumping cases that went before the court were for Ramey Brown and George Purcell. Their matters have been adjourned to October 26<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span>, 2020. <\/span><\/p>

Meanwhile, authorities are investigating another case of illegal dumping around the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday morning. \u00a0The owner of the vehicle has been identified but according to reports, was not driving the vehicle at the time that the incident occurred. \u00a0The police along with the authorities are in the process of identifying the driver so that charges can be brought.<\/span><\/p>\n

General Manager for the National Solid Waste Management Authority, Daryl Spencer is pleased that these sentences have been handed down to those individuals who continue to disregard the Litter Control and Prevention Act 2019. <\/span><\/p>
