href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2020_Atlantic_hurricane_season#Tropical_Storm_Arthur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arthur<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2020_Atlantic_hurricane_season#Tropical_Storm_Bertha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bertha<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2020_Atlantic_hurricane_season#Tropical_Storm_Cristobal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cristobal<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2020_Atlantic_hurricane_season#Tropical_Storm_Dolly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dolly<\/a>, with 9 becoming hurricanes (unchanged) and 5 becoming major hurricanes (unchanged). The accumulated cyclone energy (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Accumulated_cyclone_energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACE<\/a>) index is forecast to be 200 (down 2). Further, there is a 70% confidence of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>17 to 28 named storms;<\/li>\n<li>6 to 13 becoming hurricanes;<\/li>\n<li>3 to 7 becoming major hurricanes and<\/li>\n<li>122 to 283 ACE.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-adtags-visited=\"true\">If the forecast materialises, the ACE would be top 10 of all times. A normal season produces 106 ACE. Also, there have been six named storms to date, five time the average of 1.2. So, it has been a record busy season. Never before in history have we seen this many Atlantic tropical storms this early in the year.<\/p><div id=\"antig-3257979298\" class=\"antig-content antig-entity-placement\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.antiguabarbudaculinarymonth.com\/\" aria-label=\"culinary\"><img src=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:1920\/h:843\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:1920\/h:843\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:132\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:1024\/h:450\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:768\/h:337\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:1536\/h:675\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:1920\/h:842\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/culinary-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1124\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p data-adtags-visited=\"true\">The main reasons for the above normal forecast are:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>the continuation of a warmer than usual tropical North Atlantic (TNA) and<\/li>\n<li>a developing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elnino.noaa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Ni\u00f1a<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-adtags-visited=\"true\">The greater the likelihood of these two things happening at the same time \u2013 August to October, the greater the chances for an above normal season.<\/p><div id=\"antig-2150511457\" class=\"antig-content_2 antig-entity-placement\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.com\/antigua\/\" aria-label=\"IMG_0783\"><img src=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:500\/h:500\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_0783.png\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:500\/h:500\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_0783.png 500w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:300\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_0783.png 300w, https:\/\/mlavawteztbj.i.optimole.com\/w:150\/h:150\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_0783.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p data-adtags-visited=\"true\">There is one thing that may mitigate these developing near perfect conditions for tropical cyclone formation \u2013 more than usual Saharan Dust, streaming across the area. If this were to continue, the forecast numbers would be lower. Unfortunately, we have no skill in forecasting the dust beyond a week; hence, we do not know if the dust will continue beyond July and into the peak of the season \u2013 August to October.<\/p>\n<p data-adtags-visited=\"true\">Compared to my forecast, most other forecasts continue to call for an above normal season.
