The Department of Environment<\/span> and the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP)<\/span> \u2013 within the<\/span> Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance<\/span> held <\/span>a consultative w<\/span>orkshop on Monday, 6<\/span>th<\/span> July at the Department of Environment conference room. <\/span>T<\/span>he <\/span>purpose<\/span> of the workshop was to launch <\/span>the PSIP<\/span> call for proposals and invite government ministries to respond with applications<\/span> for public sector grants<\/span> to carry out drainage works in Cashew Hill.<\/span><\/p>

Funding has been made available <\/span>by<\/span> the Green Climate Fund (GCF) sub regional project \u201c <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>Integrated physical adaptation and community resilience through an enhanced direct access (EDA) pilot in the public, private, and civil society sectors of three Eastern Caribbean small island developing states<\/span>, also known as the EDA Project. <\/span><\/p>\n

In Output 2 of <\/span>the EDA<\/span> Project<\/span>,<\/span> the<\/span> Government<\/span> of Antigua and Barbuda<\/span>will be implementing <\/span>climate change <\/span>adaptation <\/span>interventions<\/span> using ecosystem<\/span>–<\/span>based approaches and small<\/span>–<\/span>scale infrastructural rehabilitation. The EDA will provid<\/span>e<\/span> US $3 million in grant funding<\/span>, <\/span>programmed by the PSIP<\/span>, <\/span>for implementation of these activities.<\/span><\/p>

The Cashew Hill community<\/span> is being targeted <\/span>due to its vulnerability to flooding from high intensity rainfall events such as storms and hurricanes.<\/span>Project activities will build on<\/span> the<\/span> baseline work of the EU-OECS Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) and implements<\/span> a series of interventions<\/span> outlined in the Local Area Plan (LAP) developed by the Development Control Authority (DCA) during 2018-2019.<\/span><\/p>

The workshop was attended by <\/span>representatives from <\/span>public sector agencies, NGOs, and members of the Cashew Hill community. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Call for Proposals will go live on the DoE\u2019s website and a notice will be circulated from the PSIP office beginning <\/span>Wednesday July 8<\/span>th<\/span>, 2020<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>
