The Development Control Authority (DCA) along with the Department of Environment (DoE) would like to inform the public of Antigua and Barbuda of the commencement of improvement works on Woods Pond.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

This is in accordance with Sections 53 to 57 of the Physical Planning Act No. 6 of 2003, Part II Section 4 (3) (f) and Part VIII of the Environmental Protection and Management Act No. 10 of 2019 and the Environmental Protection (Woods Pond) Order, No 77 of 2017.<\/p>\n

The commencement date is June 27, 2020 and will expire November 30, 2020. These works are being funded by the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) Project \u201cBuilding Climate Resilience through Innovative Climate Financing Mechanisms for Climate Change Adaptation\u201d and the Adaptation Fund (AF) Project \u201cAn Integrated Approach to Physical
\nAdaptation and Community Resilience in Antigua and Barbuada\u2019s northwest McKinnons Watershed\u201d.<\/p>

This project will increase the hydraulic efficiency and capacity of the Pond by:
\na. Expanding the size of Woods Pond
\nb. Removing blockages and allowing higher peak flows of water into the Pond
\nc. Increased green, social, recreational, and economic space through features such as walkways, benches, and trees
\nd. Construction of an overflow weir to reduce water surface elevation
\ne. Improving the water quality of the Ponds discharge<\/p>

The overall objective of this project is to reduce flooding in the McKinnons and Upper Gambles area in preparation for the hurricane season. On completion, this project will assist an estimated 4000 homes that are at risk of flooding.<\/p>\n
