A Team from the Ministry of Tourism and Investment, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and Antigua & Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association visited Barbuda on Wednesday to facilitate training and protocol certification for industry personnel on the sister isle.<\/p>

The team conducted 3 interactive sessions with hotel staff, land and water taxi operators, bars, restaurants and cook shop operators.<\/p>\n

Ms. Andrea Marshall, Health and Safety Consultant tasked with conducting the training said discussions were focused on food safety, hand hygiene, social distancing, mandatory mask wearing, and other measures that service providers should implement to minimize occupational health risks and to keep their customers and guests safe.<\/p>

\"\"<\/p>\n

Ms. Marshall said she expects that following the training the protocols will be adhered to by all stakeholders in Barbuda once they are ready to accept tourists.<\/p>

\u201cOur focus is safety and we want service providers to follow these protocols so that they are prepared should Covid-19 present itself here\u201d, Ms. Marshal said.<\/p>\n

Participants were given a short quiz at the end of every session to ensure they fully understand what was taught in the training. A Training in Protocols Against COVID-19 certificates were issued to hotels and guest houses, bars, restaurants and cook shop operators, while land and sea Taxi operators were given sticker decals to be placed on their vehicles and vessels.<\/p>

Jaqueline Frank, Chairman of the Tourism and Culture committee in Barbuda said she is very pleased with the attendance and the training exercise as tourism dependent businesses in Barbuda prepare to open to help revive the economy.<\/p>\n

Following the Barbuda exercise, Dr. Adelle Blair, Training Coordinator said training will continue in Antigua with another training for taxi drivers and hotel staff, destination marketing companies, tour operators, Jet ski, horseback, donkey and segway operators, as well as vendors operating on the beaches, Nelson\u2019s Dockyard and the Heritage Quay Vendors Mall.<\/p>
