Nearly 600 British visitors returned home to the UK from several islands across the
\nCaribbean, including Antigua and Barbuda, on the latest series of repatriation flights
\norganised by the British Government.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The two flights departed from the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados
\nfor London Heathrow, on 3 and 4 June.<\/p>\n

In the most complex repatriation effort undertaken by the British Government to date,
\nsweeper flights facilitated by LIAT Airlines brought British travellers from Antigua and
\nBarbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the
\nGrenadines, the British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, and Trinidad and Tobago to
\nBarbados \u2013 to join the main British Airways transatlantic flights. On the 3 June leg of
\nthe operation, a short stop was also made in Punta Cana after the plane departed
\nBarbados, enabling British travellers in the Dominican Republic to board the flight
\nhome.<\/p>

Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda, Ms Lindsy Thompson, said:
\n\u201cI\u2019d like to express my sincere thanks to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda,
\nand to all staff at VC Bird International Airport, for their co-operation and support
\nwhilst the UK Government was organising these flights. Their efforts ensured our
\ncustomers received a warm farewell from Antigua and Barbuda\u201d.<\/p>

Priority was given to British travellers who were vulnerable. This includes those who
\nare elderly and others who have medical requirements, those travelling with young
\nchildren, and those located in more\u202fremote\u202for at-risk\u202fareas across the region.<\/p>\n

The UK Government is working with the airline industry and host governments
\nacross the world to bring back British travellers to the UK as part of the plan
\nannounced by the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab (30 March) – with up to \u00a375
\nmillion available for special charter flights to priority countries<\/p>
