The House of Assembly will attempt to update rules governing the conduct of parliament when it meets on Tuesday, Attorney General Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin has said.<\/p>

The current standing orders have been in place since 1967. Discussions on changing them were initiated by House Speaker Sir Gerald Watt more than three years ago.<\/p>\n

The new standing orders will include fines for members who breach the rules of the house.<\/p>

Benjamin said after discussion spanning two years a lot of things have happened to cause them not to be debated. He said however, that the time is right to debate the new Standing Orders at this time and have it settled once and for all.<\/p>
