A second tripartite virtual meeting amongst 21 Representatives of Government, Employers and Employees was chaired by the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Public Safety & Labour<\/u><\/strong>, Steadroy Benjamin, on Friday 29th<\/sup> May. This meeting was called to continue talks commenced on Tuesday 26th<\/sup> May, regarding the best solution to the problems presented to the Government by the Antigua and Barbuda Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA).<\/p>

The proposed Emergency Powers (Outbreak of Infectious Diseases) Bill of 2020 was discussed and it was determined that in the interest of promoting industrial relations that the parties should be encouraged to enter into negotiations in all matters pertaining to any payments which would be made in the future in accordance with provisions of the Labour Code instead of introducing the bill at this time.<\/p>

It was generally appreciated among the Meeting that the declared State of Emergency superseded the tenants of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Code and that the Code did not require amendment to accommodate the current situation. Participants were once again advised that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Code would not be amended at this time.<\/p>\n
