The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution successfully appealed a sentence handed down to a man who pleaded guilty to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.<\/p>

In 2018, the man was sentenced to \u201ctwo years\u2019 imprisonment, suspended for one year\u201d by Justice Iain Morley.<\/p>\n

The office of the DPP appealed that sentence on the basis that it was too lenient and that the suspended sentence was an error of law.<\/p>

On Tuesday, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, granted the appeal agreeing with the office of the DPP on the points raised.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Appeals Court \u00a0overturned the sentence imposed by the judge so the respondent\u2019s suspended sentence was substituted for time served on remand.<\/p>\n

The sexual offence occurred when, in 2016, when the man accused of the sex crime allowed a 13-year-old girl who had run away from her home, to stay at his house.<\/p>

While laying down tired on the bed, the man turned her over and pushed her legs apart. Despite telling him that she did not want to have sex with him the man went on to have sex with her.<\/p>\n
