Education officials say things are a go for today\u2019s resumption of school for Fifth Formers, from both private and public schools, who are scheduled to sit CSEC examinations and State College students taking CAPE exams\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Director Clare Browne says an inspection was conducted at all schools across the island on Monday (May 18) to ensure that everything is in place for tomorrow\u2019s reopening and students and teachers will be protected.<\/p>\n

Browne says, however, that not all schools will reopen, since at least two institutions indicated that they have completed the syllabus and are now waiting only to write the examinations.<\/p>\n

Browne says that all schools would have collected their personal protective equipment (PPE\u2019s) from the Ministry of Education for distribution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, the School Bus Department at the Transport Board is ready for the pick-up and drop-off of those students who are returning to the classroom today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arif Jonas, Network Manager of the Government Motor Pool and School Bus System, says 15 vehicles from its fleet of 42 school buses will be out today, picking up a number of the over 1,400 students who will be writing exams in a month\u2019s time.<\/p>\n

Jonas says that protective protocols are in place and only 12 students will be allowed on any one bus. He says teachers, too, will be accommodated, and there is provision for one additional student if the need arises.<\/p>\n

Instead of students being dropped off at the usual points, Jonas says a new network system will be used. Pupils will be taken to their respective homes at the end of the school day, which, for some, concludes at midday.<\/p>\n

Buses will commence pick-up at 7 a.m. at the usual access spots across the island.<\/p>\n

In order to minimize loitering on the school plants, and even downtown, the buses will be parked on the school compounds from about 11:30 a.m. to transport students immediately at noon.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, Jonas says, no one will be required to walk to the East Bus Station, the usual dispatch point for school buses.<\/p>\n

There will be some teething problems during the initial stages of this undertaking, the network manager says; however, they will be ironed out once things get settled.<\/p>\n
