Jamaica now has 223 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) following 27 new cases overnight.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made\u00a0by Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton at a digital press conference on Monday at Jamaica House.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Nineteen of the new cases are females and four are males. Twenty-six of the new cases are linked to the Alorica call centre in Portmore, St Catherine. This means that Alorica is linked to 120 of the 223 confirmed cases on the island and has placed Portmore and by extension the parish of St Catherine at the centre of the COVID-19 outbreak on the island.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

There are now 34 imported cases of COVID-19, six are related to local transmission with no epidemiological link, 47 are contacts of confirmed cases, and 137 cases are under investigation.<\/p>\n

Of the 136 cases that are under investigation, 120 are linked to Alorica in addition to 16 other cases.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cSo far, 1,889 samples have been tested, 223 are positive and 1,655 are negative and eleven are pending,\u201d Tufton said.<\/p>\n

He said 128 persons are in isolation and 24 are in quarantine in a government operated facility. To date, 27 persons have recovered and five persons have succumbed to the respiratory disease.<\/p>
