With the national shutdown extended until midnight on May 3, Barbadians will now be required to leave home on specific days to conduct essential business.<\/p>\n

But, they will only be allowed to go to supermarkets, fish markets and banks, according to their surnames. They must show their national identification card, and have been advised to wear a mask.<\/p>

This announcement came from Prime Minister Mia Mottley tonight in an address to the nation when she pleaded with Barbadians to hold strain as the country pulls out all the stops to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the outbreak threatening the essence of how people interact and communicate with each other.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mottley said public health authorities have advised that Barbados is not ready to return to business as usual.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new arrangement mean that we will have a desire that persons can leave their house on average two days a week to do the essential things in life,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cPeople need food, we have accepted that and while the initial shutdown was restrictive, we expanded it this week to include elements of electronic commerce, which probably will be the way of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Persons whose surnames begin with the letter\u00a0A or B<\/strong>\u00a0will be allowed to leave their homes to go to the specified shopping outlets on\u00a0Mondays<\/strong>\u00a0between the hours of\u00a08 a.m. and 11 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0and on\u00a0Fridays<\/strong>\u00a0between the hours of\u00a01 p.m. and 4 p.m<\/strong>, and these persons will also be allowed to do their\u00a0banking<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a09 a.m. and 1 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Monday.<\/strong><\/p>

Persons whose surnames begin with the letter\u00a0C, D, E or F<\/strong>, will be allowed to shop on\u00a0Wednesday<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a08 a.m. and 11 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0and on\u00a0Saturday<\/strong>\u00a0between the hours of\u00a01 p.m. and 4 p.m<\/strong>, while their day for\u00a0banking<\/strong>\u00a0will be\u00a0Wednesdays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a09 a.m. and 1 p.m<\/strong>.<\/p>

Those whose surnames begin with\u00a0G, H, I, J or K<\/strong>\u00a0will be allowed to do their shopping on\u00a0Thursdays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a08 a.m. and 11 a.m<\/strong>. and\u00a0Mondays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a01 p.m. and 4 p.m<\/strong>, with\u00a0Thursday<\/strong>\u00a0being their\u00a0banking day<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a09 a.m. and 1 p.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Persons whose surname begin with the letter\u00a0L, M, N, O, P, Q, R,<\/strong>\u00a0will be allowed to leave their homes to shop on\u00a0Fridays<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a08 a.m. to 11 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0and Tuesday\u2019s\u00a01 p.m. and 4 p.m<\/strong>, with\u00a0Friday<\/strong>\u00a0being their\u00a0banking day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Persons whose surnames begin with the\u00a0remaining eight letters<\/strong>\u00a0of the alphabet will be allowed to shop on\u00a0Saturdays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a08 a.m. and 11 a.m<\/strong>. and\u00a0Wednesday<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a01 a.m. and 4 p.m<\/strong>. with their\u00a0banking<\/strong>\u00a0day being\u00a0Wednesday<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a01 p.m. to 4 p.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0senior citizens<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0disabled<\/strong>\u00a0will be allowed to leave their homes to shop on\u00a0Tuesdays<\/strong>\u00a0between the hours of\u00a08 a.m and 11 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Saturday<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a09 a.m. and 11 a.m<\/strong>, with their day for\u00a0banking<\/strong>\u00a0being\u00a0Tuesday<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a09 a.m. and 1 p.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Health-care and other essential workers<\/strong>\u00a0will be allowed to shop on\u00a0Thursdays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a01 p.m. and 4 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0and also on\u00a0Sundays<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a011 a.m. and 2 p.m<\/strong>, and their\u00a0banking day<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0Thursday<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a01 p.m. until 4 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still going to encourage curb side pick up. We are still going to encourage delivery, but we are also going to open up the supermarkets for limited hours,\u201d Mottley said.<\/p>\n
