According to Social Transformation Minister, Samantha Marshall, some working members of the population are seeking to benefit from a food package program designed for the very poor.<\/span><\/p>

Marshall is appealing to residents not to abuse the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already have persons who are employed who are calling for assistance. Don\u2019t abuse this program because the situation is our resources are limited and we do not know how long this is going to be for, but this is a program to really assist our poorest of poor or indigent those persons who have no income\u201d, said Marshall.<\/span><\/p>

The COVID-19 Emergency Food Assistance Programme will deliver food packages and prescription medication to \u201cvulnerable populations\u201d within the 24-hour curfew period that is currently in effect in Antigua & Barbuda.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe have identified our elderly who live alone. Persons with disabilities and the unemployed single parents with children\u201d , Marshall explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just a temporary program, so to speak, to assist persons who may be home and don\u2019t have anyone to go to the supermarket or may not have the income that they can really buy what they need to ensure that during the lockdown period or the state of emergency that they have items\u201d, she said.<\/span><\/p>
