Section 4 of The Electronics Crimes (Amendment) Act of 2018 makes it an offense for any person to intentionally without lawful excuse or jurisdiction send by means of an electronic system:<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

(a) Information that is threatening;<\/p>\n

(b) An electronic mail or an electronic message for the purpose of causing annoyance, insult, intimidation, enmity or hatred.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

(2) For the purpose of this section, the term \u201celectronic mail\u201d or \u201celectronic message\u201d means a message or information created or transmitted or received on an electronic system or electronic device including attachments in text, images, audio, video and any other electronic record which may be transmitted with the message.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

(3) A person who contravenes this act commits an offence and is liable on-<\/p>\n

(i) summary conviction to a fine not exceeding two hundred thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or to both; or<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

(ii) conviction on indictment to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or to both.<\/p>\n

The preceding information is a warning to members of the public who have taken it upon themselves to mislead others in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Police are therefore asking those involved to desist from this illegal practice.<\/p>
