The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is asking the public to pay particular attention to the date stated on goods, especially in light of the Coronavirus.<\/span><\/p>

The pandemic is having a significant impact on consumers who are stocking up on items, however, some consumers in their haste to make purchases have not been checking the dates stated on the items.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Division is causioning consumers that\u00a0the date a good expires on should never be taken lightly.An item should always be used before its expiration date as its safety cannot be guaranteed after this date, and consumption of expired food items may result in food poisoning and could also be fatal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Consumers are to be mindful that the\u00a0shelf\u00a0life, or the length of time packaged food will last without deterioration, is very important to know, especially if they are stock-piling. <\/span>A product that has passed its shelf life might still be safe, but quality is no longer guaranteed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Consideration should also be given to <\/span>Use<\/span> By\/<\/span> Best<\/span> if<\/span> used<\/span> B<\/span>y\/<\/span> Best<\/span> Before<\/span> dates. <\/span>This<\/span> information is given by the manufacturer and informs<\/span> as to how long the product should remain at optimal quality.\u00a0<\/span>Sell<\/span>\u00a0b<\/span>y<\/span> dates<\/span> are<\/span> typically found on perishables like meat, poultry and milk, and are guides for stores to know how long they can keep an item on display.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
