The Kiwanis Club of St. John\u2019s Antigua continues to build on its 2017-18 vision of being all inclusive and integrated in its community services mandate when it hosted a Christmas Children\u2019s Mixer for many of the children who have been beneficiaries of past programs for the year to date.\u00a0 The Everett Lake Scholarship recipients and their siblings, the recipients of the monthly feeding packages and the girls of the Good Shepherd Home came together for an evening of games, caroling and gifts.<\/p>

The initiative, which benefitted from support of a visiting team of students from Olivet College from Michigan in the United States, was piloted by the Club\u2019s President Petra Williams who has included in her mandate the need to ensure that the all of the Club\u2019s projects are integrated and sustained. \u00a0She gave special commendation to the Club\u2019s community services committee who caught the vision and executed flawlessly.<\/p>\n

Community Services Chairperson Nadasta Hurst underscored the importance of the event.\u00a0 \u2018We felt it vital to expose the children to a wholesome evening of entertainment in an environment outside their usual surroundings while sharing the Christmas spirit. I wish to thank our partners: the Olivet College students who travelled with the gifts from the US to contribute to the event and Island Academy graciously acceded to our request to host the event.<\/p>

One student from the visiting team Jenna\u00a0Benvenuti<\/strong>, indicated that this is her second visit to the island. “Service to others is a core of each of us at Olivet College, and I can’t think of a more beautiful place to be, especially when we see the wide smiles on each of the children we could serve.<\/p>
