Daryl Matthew will replace embattled senator Michael Freeland in the Upper House, a source within the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has confirmed.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Matthew has already been selected to replace Member of Parlaiment Eustace \u2018Teco\u2019 Lake who will not be contesting\u00a0 the Rural South seat for health reasons.<\/p>\n

Matthew\u2019s appointment has been drafted by the Prime Minister\u2019s office and is now awaiting confirmation by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.<\/p>

It is not yet known whether Matthew will assume all responsibilities currently held by Freeland which includes parliamentary secretary with responsibilities for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.<\/p>

Matthew currently sits as President of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association and also as executive member of the National Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n

Freeland tendered his\u00a0resignation<\/span><\/u><\/a>\u00a0to the Senate effective\u00a0December 31, 2017 over the “auction-gate” scandal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>
