The main opposition United Progressive Party said it will \u201cslash\u201d fuel prices within two weeks of returning to office.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

UPP leader Harold Lovell made that promise to residents during his party\u2019s recently concluded Vision Forum.<\/p>\n

He says the reduction will be easy because it doesn\u2019t require going to parliament and it\u2019s been a practice of the former UPP government never to take more than EC$ 2.50 in fuel taxes.<\/p>

\u201cWe are going to link the price at the pump to the international price of oil the world market,\u201d Lovell said, accusing the government of making as much as EC$8.00 on a gallon of gas.<\/p>

\u201cRight now where the price is, we can enjoy fuel prices much lower than what we are getting,\u201d Lovell, a former finance minister said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI give a firm promise that in two weeks or less we are going to slash the price at the pumps,\u201d he added.<\/p>

The price of oil per barrel is about US$ 60 on the world market and has remained relatively low for the past two years.<\/p>\n

The UPP leader did not give specifics but said his party will also reduce the fuel variation charge which in large part determines how much residents pay for electricity.<\/p>

\u201cThe light bill is still much too high,\u201d he said.<\/p>
