ROYAL POLICE FORCE OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA Office of Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canadian National Arrested with Over $200,000 Worth of Cannabis at Airport
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Sunday, 22 March 2026
The police have arrested and charged a Canadian national in connection with the importation of a significant quantity of cannabis at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 21 March, officers attached to the Narcotics Department, along with members of the K-9 Unit and the Customs Enforcement Unit, conducted a joint drug interdiction operation at the airport.
During the operation, the officers were alerted to a silver suitcase belonging to 23-year-old Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo of Canada, who had arrived in Antigua on Air Canada flight AC1832 from Toronto.
The search revealed a total of twenty-six (26) vacuum-sealed packages containing the controlled drug cannabis. The packages were seized, and the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Police Headquarters for further investigations.
The substance amounted to twenty-six (26) pounds with an estimated street value of $208,000.00 ECC.
He is expected to be charged in connection with drug-related offences.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda continues to intensify its efforts at all ports of entry to combat the illegal importation and trafficking of controlled substances.
The Police Administration is also reminding the public that strict enforcement measures remain in place to deter and prosecute persons involved in drug-related activities.
Anyone with information related to drug trafficking or other criminal activities is encouraged to contact the Narcotics Department or call the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline at 800-8477.

These the same people that have the nerve to demand Visa from us? Hmmmmm
Another one! This is the second Air Canada flight from Toronto this month that a passenger has been arrested carrying 60+ lbs of cannabis.
Once again, airport personnel in Toronto failed to intercept this when the passenger originally boarded the flight there but Antigua police/Customs personnel didn’t miss it upon arrival. This makes me a little suspicious of what is going on at Toronto airport!
Like I said weeks ago, I find it amusing that someone is importing cannabis to Antigua from 2,000 miles away! No one grows cannabis in the Shekerley Mountains anymore?
Antigua still has a gallows yes?
@Westside
Keep in mind Race Week is around the corner.
And trafficking in the waters of the Caribbean is life threatening these days
What exactly is going on here 🤔
Is this some kind of Canadian pipeline?
There’s something not too kosher going on here👀
Law enforcement must tag the import with tracking devices and track the supplies to their destinations and local distributors. Or they are sparing those doing the importing the embarrassment.
Until the island can grow good cannabis it will always be imported. Even the dispensaries here are producing less than desirable products. Antigua has no cannabis culture nor do we possess the knowledge or skills needed to produce real high grade cannabis. So it will be imported however and by any means necessary.
Gamjapharma, you are looking in the wrong places. Plenty of young and old men produce some great stuff. Coming from Canada and being part of the culture, there is great stuff here.
Maybe you have smoked so much in your life that you should move on to pills to blow your brains out lol.
