Prison Officers Sent Home After Emotional Reaction to Child Murder Suspect’s Arrival
Tensions ran high at His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) as Angela Mejia, charged with the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump, was placed in isolation.
Several prison officers, including some from Chantel’s community, became emotionally overwhelmed and were sent home to compose themselves.
They expressed outrage and refused to interact with Mejia, with some breaking down in tears.
Authorities reminded staff of their duty to all inmates, while concerns over Mejia’s safety remain high, with prisoners also voicing their anger.

Her agents and the powers that be making a case for her to be accommodated at the prisoner hotel up at Coolidge, no doubt.
Can you blame them? They have a job that they are duty bound to perform yes, but they are also human beings and humans are emotional people
Everyone seeing this young baby 9 years of old getting killed and left in the bushes how do they expect we the people to feel police officers are human to seeing someone commit such a crime no consideration to this poor baby these police officers have children niece nephews emotions they feel the pain
The bitch deserves to be Epsteined but not before she spills her guts.
The prisoners need emotional support as well.
It is important for them to remain professional.
Everyone of these prison officers should be dismissed forthwith. They are in the wrong occupation and not suited to be working in a prison. A prison is not a place for altar boys and girls. This clearly shows the lack of professionalism in the Prison Service. No wonder the prison always has problems.
yes they need TRAINING. They are allowing emotions to overrule rational thinking just like the public at large.
She will not be safe in any facility in Antigua
Has she obtained legal counsel?
@ Luka Johnson. I agree with you completely. Imagine a doctor refusing to attend to a patient because he or she is severely disfigured or something. The prison officers are humans and have feelings but they must be able to cope with the presence of all kinds of inmates or else they’re not fit for the job. This shows that they have not been adequately trained for the position.
@OTTO.. Prison officers are humans too. They have families.. and while they have a duty to fulfill, let’s remember that humanly speaking this is hard for everyone.
Judges are human too, but they do not allow emotions to impact their rulings (sustain or overrule objections made).
Be professional you sorry excuses for so called law enforcement. PUNK A$$ ANTIGUAN BULL
No one should blame the officers… they too hve children…. let me say if I was an office there at that time only God knows what I would do upon seeing that bitch
There is something not connecting with this case. This girl seems to be innocent or pawn or is not the principal.
I hereby request to interview and or participate in her representation for the truth to come out. She needs proper representation and I cannot rely on any investigation from the Antigua and Barbuda Police force and prosecutor’s office, no one knows this more than me.
I want a local attorney, of my choice, and myself to ensure this defendant’s constitutional rights/due process is protected.
Something does not seem right in this matter. I will get the truth.
All now they can’t get her to say why she killed Chantel.
What’s the motive ?
From this we the public can better understand the nature of this case and know what to pay keen attention to and better help law enforcement with further investigation in this and other pending case.
But if you keep the public in the dark, how do you expect us to help efficiently and effectively?
They are not fit to be there. This is what you signed up for, this is a test exposing all the weak hearted, only the strong can hold their composure and have self control. Nobody said it’s easy but you should have been trained for situations like these, just exposed how fragile those are who broke down. Indeed, everybody not cut out for some jobs, if you handle the heat in the kitchen, sorry, get out.
@SMH 268. Agreed but they are in the wrong profession. That is my point. A prison officer, a police officer, a soldier, a doctor will have to deal with all kinds of people. That is the job. If you can’t do it, move on. I will repeat. Everyone of those officers should be dismissed and replaced pronto. They are not suited for that job and need to find alternative employment. Imagine a doctor refusing to treat a person because he does not like them. Aren’t prisoners from this same prison sent to the hospital when they are sick?
Exactly. Well Said!
Antiguanewsroom is always dramatic with their headlines. But great work guys. You have been really showing off yall selves lately. You guys are likkle but you Tahlahwah
If only the innocent received this level of protection too
Put her with the rest inmates why isolate her she’s in prison and you are still picking up and protecting this girl she’s in prison now let her be yourself in there let her go
Anonymous, bullshit! The elderly and CHILDREN are to be protected at all costs and anyone violating them should pay – be they preacher, teacher, or police officer. Having said that…these jail officers are humans first and foremost. Some are fathers, mothers, uncles and aunties. How the hell do you expect them to feel? A child died at the hands of that bitch, so I commend the officers for not breaking her neck on sight. That’s restraint and professionalism for your anonymous ass!
This is a prime example of an important branch of law enforcement, who are poorly screened and trained.
Not everyone is cut out to do the job.
This may be the time to screen and train the entire law enforcement organizations with psychological program.
We are all humans but have different tolerance. If those prison officers do not possess the tolerance to be in the presence or can be responsible for the accused; they are in the wrong profession and not equipt for the job.
This is a major failure of the Attorney General
Nah the prison is staffed by idiots. I went to visit someone in prison and because I was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans one of the uniform officer came up to me and barked “PUT YOUR SHIRT IN YOUR PANTS”. Lol. Not something she would be able to do tbf.
