An American businesswoman who was critically injured in a violent assault in Antigua and Barbuda has died.

Karen Johansson was attacked while conducting horseback riding tours on Runaway Beach and suffered severe head injuries. Her family said she sustained a catastrophic traumatic brain injury and was placed on life support with no prospect of recovery.

In a statement, her sister said doctors advised that Johansson was unable to breathe independently and would not regain neurological function. She added that Johansson was a registered organ donor and that her organs would be used to help others.

Police are questioning Johansson’s former partner in connection with the attack, and sources say charges could be laid. Investigators believe the suspect is a man with whom Johansson had recently ended a relationship.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the investigation.

  1. Smh she was badly injured this is heart breaking heed to go to prison!!! He did it to her jealous fker I can’t believe this!!! Now we can’t get no VISA for sure

  2. My condolences to the family. I feel also for the people of the United Islands of Antigua and Barbuda. I wish there was a crime victim advocacy endeavor in Antigua and Barbuda to assist Americans (victims & family of victims) who are victims of vicious and qualifying crimes while abroad. But ABLP refuse to help and encourage such endeavor based on their hatred for the US and love for Maduro’s Venezuela, China, Cuba, Haiti and hell.

But while writing this, I just realized that this happened at the beach, and she has a horse riding business. Did we investigate to ensure it wasn’t a fall and trample from the horse at the beach, in broad day light, that caused the severe injuries?

Again, are there any reasonable basis to suspect a crime and not a horse accident?

  3. Good grief! I am really floored by this. As others take and accept your organs, I pray wellness and life to them, something that was regrettably taken from you. I know you fondly loved Antigua and Barbuda and you know that we are not all like your killer.

  4. If he is charged and found guilty, he should receive no less than 30 years of imprisonment.
Sympathies to her bereaved family. What a sad end to 2025.

  5. People need to walk away from relationships that are not healthy. Violence is not the answer and men, tends to be the aggressors in most of those cases. Walk to hell🚶 away! If she dun, she dun! You mussa name “nar dun.” If you committed that crime, your goose is cooked. Some men are too damn controlling. Now, she’s dead and you may be facing a lifetime in jail for what you could’ve just moved on from.

  6. Stop it already. When do Antiguans start to take responsibility and stop using excuses and looking for something, anything else to blame but themselves

  7. So incredibly sad. Thinking of her family and everyone affected, and hoping her legacy of generosity as an organ donor brings light to others.
