Man Sentenced to 14 Months for Illegal Gun Possession
A 24-year-old man has been jailed for over a year after being found guilty of illegal firearm and ammunition possession.
Alvin O’Brien was sentenced on Wednesday to 14 months at His Majesty’s Prison by Magistrate Dane Hamilton for having an unlicensed 9mm handgun and 13 rounds of ammunition.
The charges stem from an August 2024 incident in Gray’s Farm, where plainclothed officers saw O’Brien acting suspiciously. He fled and dropped a bag containing the loaded firearm, a mask, and glass breakers.
O’Brien was later arrested following a search of his home. His lawyer, Warren Cassell, noted the offence occurred before recent amendments to the Firearms Act that introduced harsher penalties.

Whether he committed the incident before the gun act changed he should have been given the maximum. How much people he harassed? They need to get a change of heart.

I honestly believe that those who found with illegal guns, should get a penality that would teach them a lesson,so they will never think of doing so again…
They need to stop being nice to these criminals. Carrying a gun to someone’s home to steal is for one purpose and one purpose only. That is to take life. What they need to do is change laws to allow citizens to protect themselves and not get jailed. If someone is in your hiome uninited with a gun you should have the right to physically defend yourself een if it means ending their life just as they intended to do to you.
What the hell is this. . A man caught with a spliff of weed get 15 months and a man caught with an illegal firearm and get 14 months. Hmmm 🤔 this is the highest form as slackiness. How crime will ever stop.
