All Saints West Primary Run-Off Set Between Lamin Newton and Regis Burton Amid Result Dispute

16

Recent developments in the All Saints West Primary election have added intrigue, with Lamin Newton and Regis Burton, leading candidates, likely heading for a run-off.

Newton won initially, but Burton disputes the outcome.

Burton’s letter to party leaders highlighted the election contract requiring a run-off if no candidate secured 50% of the votes.

Newton received 157 votes, Burton 142, and Arry Simon 60.

Insiders suggest Burton has a strong case, citing procedural issues and inaccuracies in the voters’ list and ballot count.

The concerns include discrepancies in the initial voters’ list despite revisions, incomplete inclusion of registered voters, and a ballot count lower than the reported turnout, without spoiled ballots.

The race is closely watched as it heads towards a competitive run-off to determine the final winner.

  1. Is there anything the ABLP can get done without cheating someone along the way? They are even cheating their own.

  2. I believe that is the fairest way to resolve this dispute. The Ari Simon’s supporters will now have to choose whom they will support in the run-off. The constituents will be more accepting of the final tabulation. Perhaps, even more voters will show up. All the best to the both candidates.

    • @Dave Ray: Were you satisfied with Regis Burton’s concerns. That the procedures were not adhered to in the Primary Listings. It is now the fairest way.Because REGIS BURTON STOOD UP LIKE A REAL MAN AND PUSHED BACK. He stood up for his rights against the Leaders in your Gaston Browne Labor Party. For I heard Gaston Browne on that Radio Station.Congratulating Newton as the winner and the Candidate for the Constituency in the next Election. He was crowning Newton. When in fact the proper procedures were not followed, per the contract signed by all Candidates in the Primary. The contract was very straight forward.Even a person like me who went to school 3 days per year, understood it.Well done,Regis. This time around kick his LAZYMEN arse for good out of Politics.

  3. The ABLP has proven once again that dishonesty is in there DNA. If they can’t run a Constituency primary honestly; how can they run a national election? I know.

I know; that’s not a rhetorical question. It’s just who they are. Nothings gets done without some form of cheating.

  4. What an embarrassing situation for the ABLP to find itself in. A really screwed up Primary where the rules were not followed. Having already crowned Lamin with the Standard bearer title, they are now forced to go back to pack and have the runoff that was clearly spelt out in the original contract. Sadly, whatever the outcome of the runoff, there will be much bitterness and anger and the feeling that they were outdone by the partys shenanigans and failures. Damage control is not gonna be easy.

  6. SIGH

And is there anything else that was expected? If this type of thing is done for a General Election-win at all cost-do we expect anything better? It’s now just internal…getting what they dish out…at least those who never spoke out and condoned it are getting a feel of it…God truly has a sense of humour… Party supporters are claiming bribes with US$100 and KFC. It’s never who the people want, but who the party higher-ups want.

  7. I’ve done some research about Lamin. And I can tell you the reviews are troubling. The has mad a lot of enemies especially at the ministry of Agriculture. One thing I cannot agree with the Prime Minister is this. You complain about Gizelle Isaac having so many jobs from the government. Yet Lamin has at least two jobs that I’m aware of. Earning a very good salary. He is executive Chairman of the Central Marketing Corporation and he is also some officer in the ministry of Agriculture, going to trips to China and all over. At CMC I was told he is ruling like a dictator and the manager has reported him many time to the minister, but to no avail. I guess he is the blue eye boy who was brought over to the ABLP by him. I have learned that he has put in policies in place that no check can be issued without his signature and no matter where he is they need to bring the checks to him. Which I was told has stagnant the operation tremendously. Cause sometime he cannot be find for the entire day. He has undermined the authority of the general manager, and told her that he run things.
It is in this regards I warn the people of ASW to be careful whom you give your vote to. Cause only when people have power they show their true character. And the character that Mr. Newton has displayed so far is that of a dictator in the making. Be forewarned people.

  8. Giving Cross Over UPP candidates preferential treatment over diehard ALP/ABLP members will be the downfall of the Gaston Browne administration. Regis is a diehard ALP member. worshipped in the same congregation as our late Father of the Nation. PAPA BIRD. he grew up admiring this ALP great. He has been a people’s man for ever since and his entire DNA is about service to the people of his constituency. The ABLP executive would do best not to alienate these young people over those that are just coming from the other side, claiming they have seen the light and are now laborites. I know a leopard never loses it’s spots. Be weary of this Mr. PM. These are the same people who will in the end turn on you. History has many lessons of persons such as these. They are not BORN Laborites. The are opportunists. And yes they will say and do anything to be recognized and get what they want. But once you give them what they want, sorry for you. And the ABLP will have lost a whole generation of young laborites that are born in the houses of labour

  9. waiting on the primary between Jermaine Lewis and Larry Frederick. it’s time for a fresh face let’s paint All Saints East and St Luke red!!

  10. I am surprised that Gaston Brown oppted to have primaries instead of polling in the 6 constituencies ABLP lost in the last election…I wonder if St. GEORGES, ST.PHILLIPS EAST/NORTH and ALL SAINTS EAST/ ST.LUKE will be so lucky😎😎…

    • Well it is not just his decission to make. It is the “Executive” for the party that makes those decissions. But then again you guys think Gaston has all the power in the party. He will have to convince them to adopt his suggestion. But seeying how this primary went I would agree going with a poll instead. The number of people that participate in a primary is too small. A poll would take a bigger sample. And when polls are scientifically done they will give you a better feel as to who the people want as their representative. You only run the risk that the poll will include UPP supporters as well. However it is remarkable that the primary of St. John’s Rural West went so smooth. It’s a good thing the general elections are so far away. We have time to put all these things in place.
