All Saints Secondary graduation list causes concern, so ceremony postponed, possibly to December

REAL NEWS: While most education institutions are celebrating their students with the annual graduation ceremonies, at least one school will not be staging its event at this time.

The All Saints Secondary School has postponed its graduation until December 2023 – the acting principal, Elvin Hodge, is hoping.

In a letter dated Tuesday, June 13, parents were informed of the postponement of the exercise.

Hodge tells them that, following a meeting between Director of Education Clare Browne, the school’s management, and representatives of the graduation committee, it was determined that the list of students eligible for graduation needs to be re-examined.

The reason for reassessment was not stated in the letter.

To further compound the situation, Hodge writes, members of the graduation committee have resigned, leaving the principal in a difficult position.

Accordingly, the graduation ceremony was postponed, which, Hodge says, was a decision made with a heavy heart, and he apologizes to the parents for the inconvenience.

Sources in education circles allege that the Ministry of Education is embarrassed that not enough of the school’s senior students have “qualified” for graduation.

However, this is unconfirmed by school officials.

  1. “… Sources in educational circles allege that the Ministry of Education is embarrassed …”

What say you Education Minister Daryl Sylvester Matthews?

HAVE THE ABLP TAKEN THEIR EYES OFF THE BALL AGAIN … SEEMS SO!

    • No wonder the constituents in All Saints kick-out unna backside at the last General Election.

What ah sensible people dem …

    • WTF the minster and ministry have to do with students who don’t meet the requirements for graduation. It’s not always about grades it could be things such as their attendance record and overall conduct through out their time at the school. Chupes politics has nothing to do with this but then again look at the source of the story enough said there

      • My word @ Chupes, no wonder the ABLP government can play successful mind games with avid supporters like you.

Look at Daryl Matthew’s portfolio and some of the positions he holds:

        1) University of West Indies (UWI)
        2) General Education
        3) Training
        4) Board of Education
        5) Antigua & Barbuda Institute of Continuing Education (ABICE)

        6) Science of Technology
        7) National Commission on Education
        8) Youth Empowerment

All the above shows that the Education Minister then is WITHOUT portfolio according to YOU @ Chupes.

Here’s another ABLP Member being paid the BIG bucks and not taking responsibility.

NO WONDER GASTON DEM CAN TUN YOU ALL FOOLS …

        • All this just to show how ignorant you are Brixtonian. As someone don’t sing and dance to your tune you immediately call them one ABLP suppoter . From since me ah go school there has always been a requirement to graduate and me done school since 2005. Not everything rlneeds a political spin but the article fullfiled its purpose as it bought out the political whores🙍🏾‍♀️

          • Let those who are qualified graduate, don’t let them suffer with carefree and careless ones.

        • @ Brixtonian

Sir I have been following your narratives in this forum. I must admit that it shows that you are just writing without a purpose. You like attention and the ABLP Supporters such as GEL, JB , CHUPES, POPS and others feed into your EGO. You are just an EMPTY head. DO NOT take BRIXTONIAN serious. Stupid Guy.

      • First of all PARA I am not an ABLP suppoter.
Second it’s not about feeding Brixtonian ego but rather calling him out in his bs. Nit everything post on here needs to be political. The school set rules and requirements for graduation. This article was structured in such a way to make it seems like the kids not graduating was politically motivated. But look at the source of the article and it will make so much sense.

        • @ Chupes and PARA, this is why I thoroughly enjoy these ANR threads.

I have a gift of SCRAMBLING the minds of the IGNORANT, who just cannot handle freedom of speech or another person’s point of view. Just beautiful!

I still have a dream that one fine day, someone – of good intellect – will reply to what I’ve said (or better still, the actual ANR news item) instead of pulling down the messenger.

          KEEP TAKING BRIXTONIAN’S BAIT …

  2. Qualifications do not always speak about grades

Students need to have good behavior and punctuality as well

  3. Sometimes it sickens me to read some of these comments. I will say charity begins at home. Some of us parents are too busy to even attend a PTA meeting, but as soon as de gong sound for party, we gone. Sit down with your children. Ask them how was their day and find out what they did in school and what issues they might be having and speak to the teacher(s) about your child’s progress. All cannot be left up to the children as sometimes they need help. We must also remember, we have a lot of distractions now as well that is much easier to gravitate to, so it’s up to us to help them stay focused.

Please stop blaming people for our children’s short comings. They have more tools and better ways to do research and the like than when we attended school. The library was our Internet and we did rather well. Please let us get a grip and stop blaming Gaston Browne and government. I am sick of it. Some of us so hate government that we have lost sight of what or who the true problems might be, and government is not to be blamed. We need to start checking ourselves and see where we would be failing our children. Once we take stock and do some introspection and go old school, trust me, our children and society will be better for it.
If ya’ll want to come up under my post and say Gaston brain wash me, it’s OK but the problems remain. Introspection. Introspection. Introspection. Mek arwe check arwe self before we blame others for our short comings!

  4. Totally expected the All saints secondary school went to the dogs after that asshole of a principle came. He has no proper judgment of things and is just generally illiterate. All schools deserve a proper and fair system but unfortunately Asss will never experience anything decent because of the slack authority it has. Sorry not sorry but they really need to do better🫵🏽

  5. Attendance and behavior should not be a block on ones qualification towards graduation. If the record shows bad behavior and Attendance, then this person may be left out of the graduation norms like marching in with his class of 2023, but to say they will not graduate and deprive them of their diploma is not right.
