Survey teams have begun work on a major upgrade of the All Saints Road, marking the start of what officials describe as one of the country’s most significant infrastructure projects in recent years.
The Ministry of Works confirmed that the reconstruction is being carried out by Amdex, a partnership between the Canada-based Dexter Company and local engineering specialists. The government says the collaboration brings “enhanced technical capacity” to a project expected to reshape a key transport corridor.
The upgrade will span more than 10 miles, running from the V.C. Bird bust in St John’s through to English Harbour. According to the ministry, both survey teams and materials-testing crews are already operating on site as preparatory work progresses.
As part of the project, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) will replace ageing water pipes along the route. Officials say the coordinated approach is intended to prevent the road from being dug up again in the near future.
The Ministry of Works is also developing traffic-management plans to minimise disruption for motorists. Temporary diversions and phased closures are expected as construction moves into its main stages.
The government says more updates will be issued as work advances.
