The leader of the Hispanic community in Antigua and Barbuda, Alex Martínez, has issued a strong warning to his fellow Dominicans to remain cautious and avoid confrontation amid rising anti-Dominican sentiment following the recent murder of a nine-year-old girl.

In a Facebook Live address, originally delivered in Spanish and translated, Martínez expressed concern over social media posts inciting violence against Dominicans, stressing that innocent people should not suffer for the actions of one individual.

“There are voices inciting hate against us, calling for attacks on Dominicans. This is dangerous. Innocent people should not pay for the actions of one person,” Martínez stated. “We must remain vigilant and avoid confrontation. Retaliation will only escalate tensions.”

His comments come amid reports that a Dominican national may be implicated in the crime, leading to online discussions suggesting retaliatory actions against members of the Dominican community. He condemned such rhetoric, calling for unity and justice rather than division and fear.

Martínez urged Dominican nationals in Antigua and Barbuda to stay aware of their surroundings and ensure their safety. “I tell all Dominicans to be careful. Watch your homes, watch your streets, and stay out of trouble. We cannot allow ourselves to be caught up in conflict,” he said.

He also called on local authorities to intervene in de-escalating tensions and ensuring that all residents, regardless of nationality, are treated fairly. “The authorities must act responsibly to prevent any violence. No one should be targeted because of their nationality,” he added.

Martínez acknowledged the grief and anger surrounding the child’s murder and extended his condolences to the family. However, he emphasized that justice should be pursued through proper legal channels, not through acts of retaliation or discrimination.

“We all want justice for this little girl. We demand answers, just as we demand answers for other unsolved cases, including the murder of Dominican national Jennifer Bridge. But justice must be served correctly, not through blame or violence,” he asserted.

  1. There will not be any confrontation with people like you, but deportation yes, once we get rid of the vote hungry politicians that keeping you all here to vote for them to avoid their pending jail time for corruption in office.

  2. We should treat y’all like how y’all treat Haitian immigrants in the DR. You Dominicans punish the lot because of the actions of few, funny here in another man’s country you are pleading for the same not to be done. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

  3. We sit here and try to talk about people in our country and deportation of people. Now where is our people? Where are the indigenous antiguans that should be here so we could be in the majority and decide our own faith? They somewhere in someone elses country doing the same thing that the Spanish, jamaicans, Guyanese and other immigrants doing. Tell your brother, sister, aunty’s uncle, nephew and all a dem who in other ppl country to come home so we not in the minority in this country.

  4. You can warn anybody ?? If ah bun then ah bun. Y’all have to go. Never in my life I expect to see this kind if crime in Antigua. If you want to whore your own pickney out do wha you ah do. But you fk up youselves this time. Well known in your circle so na tell me you know wha min ah gwan

  5. Sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of Chantel. As a citizen of Antigua, we all felt the pain but, obviously, we might not even be able to imagine what the parents and siblings are going through.

Amidst all the pain though, we really should not try to retaliate against a community of people because one or a few did a heinous crime. A few Antiguans have committed violent crimes in other countries and we would not want to be victimized because of their actions.

More than likely the officers are continuing their investigation and looking for links between this case and other cases, the involvement of others in this and other cases, etc. Let us exercise a bit of patience.

  6. Bird people bring this clown to Antigua to disrespect black people. He better self-deport to Spain. This is a black, English, Anglican country.

  7. Unfortunately Antiguans do not have the numbers to dominate most countries of the world. Even in the USA the voice of Antiguans do not affect the government or decide the direction of the country.
