Akini Walker has pleaded guilty to possessing a military-style FN rifle, which prosecutors described as “a battle rifle.”

Police say the weapon is so powerful that no protective vest in Antigua could stop its rounds.

The court heard that Walker was arrested during a Sunday morning raid, after allegedly attempting to flee by jumping through a window.

His lawyer claims police tortured him to obtain the passcode to his phone, including the use of waterboarding — an allegation authorities have not publicly addressed.

Walker is due to be sentenced next Wednesday.

  1. Big picture folks.

Not how, why are these kinds of guns passing through our ports?
Answer…because we have a very porous immigration and customs system.

And who is responsible for tightening up those very porous systems?

I’m not here to accuse anyone, quite frankly I’m tired of doing that and have passed that stage at this point.
I’m simply here to implore this administration to pay more attention to the serious problems in the island.

I even hate to give credit to politicians, because I’m a firm believer in the term ” rehabilitation comes from ones self” but we have a serious systemic problem in Antigua that’s been ignored for too long on a serious crime fighting level.

Please Gatson, though I can’t tell you or order you what to do as a grown man, but as a PM, please pull out your best efforts to curb this gun and drugs madness in the island.

It’s obvious that just putting out gun Amnesty is not enough, or meeting with young gang members at a soccer field for that matter.

We need serious radical border control.

It’s time to piss off some of the higher ups in this island, who are clearly involved in these criminalities.

    Who get bex, bex!!!

The same way your officers can find the force to bust into Akini’s house in the wee hours of the mourning, go after the top runners with the same fervor.

    I plea.

  2. I will not address the issue of the rifle which is a very serious one. But it is unlawful and illegal for any police to demand a citizens cell phone password. It is an action that the police continues to take in violation of the rights and privacy of citizens. Only by way of a court order or a warrant that citizens are legally bond to disclose their password/code to the police. The police must stop their strong arm tactics of forcing citizens to give them their device information.

  3. No “protective vest” anywhere will stop a 7.62 x 51mm caliber round and most steel plates would fail, especially if hit at close range or repeatedly.

Your average gun store in the US will sell semi-automatic FN rifles (the FAL and SCAR version are not cheap) in that caliber and the military version is used by the armed forces of many countries, including Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and St. Vincent. The serial numbers and other markings should give the authorities a good idea of where this originated from.

Antigua’s coastline, like many other places, makes the smuggling of guns, drugs or people far easier than most people realize.
