The multi-million dollar upgrade to the airfield of the VC Bird International Airport is recording steady progress and the project has now seamlessly moved into another critical phase.

The third phase of the project is now underway and like the previous phases will see the completion of important airside enhancements designed to align the VC Bird International with global and modern aviation standards.

Members of the public and nearby communities are asked to note that the work in this third phase will take place during the night time hours, starting at 8pm and ending at 8am the following day from Monday until Saturday each week until 15 April, the anticipated date of completion.

This phase of the project will involve reconstructing the asphalt section of the displaced Runway 07 and a new Runway End Safety Area (RESA). The RESA is a crucial safety provision that reduces risk if an aircraft overshoots or veers off the runway.

Also in this phase, the construction and technical teams will install new approach lights, runway edge lights, and turnpad edge lights across the airfield. These upgrades will improve visibility and enhance overall operational efficiency for aircraft during takeoff and landing at the VC Bird International Airport.

“We are very pleased with the progress of the work so far. At the end of the project, the VC Bird International Airport will be able to proudly boast a modern airfield that will only reinforce its status as a standard bearer of aviation in the Caribbean,” stated Operations Manager Rex Daly.
