Air quality across Antigua and Barbuda is currently rated as “good”, with only minimal impacts from Saharan dust, according to the latest bulletin issued by the national weather authority.
In its advisory released at 4:45 pm on Thursday, 9 April 2026, the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services said the Air Quality Index (AQI), based on particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) concentrations, is currently in the range of 20 to 40.
Officials described conditions as stable, noting that there is “minimal Saharan dust and/or particulate matter at present” and adding that no action is required from the public.
The bulletin placed the air quality category at “good” with an alert level of I, indicating low risk to the general population.
However, authorities cautioned that certain groups remain more vulnerable to changes in air quality. These include people with respiratory or heart conditions, as well as elderly individuals and children.
Despite this, the health implications were listed as none under current conditions.
Saharan dust events, which originate from the Saharan dust, are a regular feature in the Caribbean region, often affecting visibility and air quality when concentrations are higher.
The Meteorological Services said residents should continue to monitor official updates through its communication channels, including social media platforms and traditional media outlets.
For now, authorities say conditions remain safe, with no advisories or restrictions in place.
