UPDATE: An Air Canada Airbus 319 made a safe emergency landing at VC Bird International Airport on Thursday night due to a landing gear issue. The plane, carrying 120 passengers, landed at 10:34 PM after jettisoning fuel and received the all-clear at 10:48 PM. The emergency was declared shortly after takeoff for Toronto.

EARLIER REPORT: A full emergency has been declared at V.C. Bird International Airport as an Air Canada flight with 120 passengers prepares for an emergency landing due to mechanical issues. This is the second such incident at the airport within 12 hours.

The aircraft took off at 9 p.m. but was about 20 miles from Antigua when pilots reported the issue and requested to return.

Earlier today, an Amerijet cargo plane made an emergency landing just before 11 a.m. because of a flap malfunction.

    Do not worry. They will look into the cause of the Emergency Landing. They always does. The Airline industry has maybe the strictest rules and regulations as it pertains to safety.
    That particular plane will not fly again until issue has been identified and fixed.
    If issue cannot be identified, all planes of that model type will be grounded until issue is found.
    They always try to find the cause as a way of preventing future issues.
    As I understand it. Only twice in history has They failed to find cause of a commercial Airline crash.
    And kudos to LIAT. One of the safest record in the industry ever.
