A threatened ban on several fifth-form students attending graduation at the Antigua Girls’ High School has been rescinded following intervention by the Ministry of Education.
Principal Rosalind Beazer had reportedly warned that students who breached a directive prohibiting hair extensions, braids, weaves and hair colour would be excluded from the ceremony. The issue surfaced after some students were sent home during a scheduled yearbook photo session because their hairstyles were deemed non-compliant.
The proposed sanction sparked public debate, with some residents describing it as excessive. Director of Education Clare Browne later stated on state television that denying graduation over a minor infraction would be disproportionate.
A meeting with parents and students was subsequently held, during which the graduation ban was formally withdrawn. However, affected students were reportedly required to write letters of apology to be read to school administrators and their classmates.
The meeting also addressed allegations that a senior educator ran her hands through some students’ hair. While a deputy principal denied the claims, two students reportedly identified the educator. One parent further alleged that one student was stripped of her prefect badge and another removed from the graduation planning committee.
Parents have expressed relief that the students will now be allowed to graduate. Fifth-formers are scheduled to begin study leave on April 16 ahead of the May/June CSEC examinations.

She just go Dey and done a pappy show she self. Just like the PMS students are rejecting the new witch from ASSS, so will we do the same at AGHS!
Signed an Ole Girl who feels Beazer is a downgrade from Croft.
She is not from ASSS. She only spent one very controversial and unsuccessful year at ASSS. Not every good teacher is a school plant manager. Leading and Bullying are two completely different things.
Imagine discipline has now taken a seat to arrogance in this country. And then we all sit and wonder when we get older what happened in our life. Social influences has taken precedence over a school disciplinary rule. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!! I hope you are all there to support each other when things go worse for your children later on in thier lives. This is totally ridiculous!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME. Now we all wonder why the kids are in school smoking, fighting and having sex. It’s the parents!!!
What is Antigua coming to, even the Ministry of Education is encouraging children to break rules, little wonder we have so much lawlessness among the young. The adults have now become the children. This Administration is a curse on the country
Glad to see commonsense prevailed.
A good outcome considering. Good job from the Director and Ministry of Education for bringing calm to the situation.
well finally the children can graduate
WOW. Great decision. Finally these poor girls can also be removed from the control of that principal
Let me say that the principal is a miserable bitch, as are her supporters. She takes pleasure in stressing people. What harm is there in letting the young ladies look as pretty as they want to for their yearbook photos? Bend the dress code rule for that occasion and for graduation as well. And oh! her ego needs to be stroked by having letters of apology written. Horrible woman.
my niece was amoung the girls. oh my brother will be happy his daughter can graduate. that lady made no sense
If somebody has been of impeccable conduct for five years at a school, and there is some single infraction of coming to school with a little bit of makeup, then I am not sure that warrants a no graduation situation,” she stated. The Dirctor of Education is referred to as “she” in this paragraph.
That woman always in some drama. everywhere she goes is something with students and/or the faculty and it’s not because she a great leader. That woman is arrogant and a dictator. From OCS, to Pares to everywhere she goes she just knows how to disturb the peace in a school system. Time for Rosalind to go home and I’m not talking about Barbados. Just retired she for good jak
They worrying about Makeup when they’re leaving and will wear it anyway? Let them have their hard earned chance to graduate. Proud of this move from the ministry
Clare Browne was right. You can’t deny a child graduation for a hairstyle. That is too extreme.
The principal should have handled this better from the start. Public embarrassment was unnecessary.
All this over hair? In 2026? We really still fighting children about braids and extensions?
My think is. Why are the boys getting a pass to grow and plat their hair, And the girls can’t get extensions? I totally get that our youths are out of control and are in dire need of discipline. However, stipulations can be made about the colorand length of the extensions. And I’m against parents and students violating the school rules. Why didn’t this meeting get called by the parent be for it had to come to this? It’s like rebellious parents raising rebellious children.
A Principal/ Management gave a directive, the students knew that if they went against the decision that they would be banned from the ceremony. They blatantly disregarded the decision, now there is a problem. Parents and the Ministry of Education, what you are telling the students is that they can do whatever they please, that they should.not follow rules. Whether the principal was extreme or not, that is not the issue. The issue is that the students along with their parents decided not to abide and we think that that is ok?
If the parents decided to o deal with the matter before by going to the Ministry of Education etc then that is one thing, but knowing that they would be banned from the ceremony they still went ahead to do what they pleased… What a shame….
When these same students end up in work places not being able to follow simple rules and getting themselves in all sorts of things we will wonder why….
Good luck to the next generation
CLARE.BROWNE will reap exactly what he showed. Sad part is that society will have to.deal with the consequences of his silly.choices
I’m appalled !!!! You were not allowed to do business in Government Places wearing shorts slippers and sleeves
less attire !!!! Now in the place of Learning where Children are being molded to be Role Models to younger Children as well as Peers
I’m sure The Former Principles of The Institution must be rolling over in Their graves with the down grade of The School presently
Take a good look on how Students are dressed
Slippers , faded coloured uniforms , hair length that can be used as weapon and everyone is blind and dumb
Old Girls where is The Dignity ?
I rest My Case
So let me get this straight….
The young ladies would rather not graduate because they were not able to wear weave and extensions?
Talk about priorities……..Just wow
Response to Bum Bastic
You cannot equate boys growing their natural hair out to girls putting in hair extensions. Natural and unnatural are two different things. This type of reasoning is why our children behave so.
Secondly, although the hair infraction might been seen as minor, the the students got letters since September, along with meetings with the parents to let them know the rules. Students and parents deliberately disregarded the rules and did what they wanted, so although the infraction is “minor” the intent behind breaking the rules willful and planned.
Go and choose your burial plot because you’re clearly old and tired.
Being a role model isn’t limited to attire. Your age is showing. It’s character and ability.
Jeniece who used to go to AGHS is an accomllished attorney with a nose ring. She even was at the UN dressed in bright clothing and her nose ring. You old, tired and ready fu dead. Go dung ah Barnes and begin planning your own funeral.
In 2026, no old tired bitch ah tell other women what to do!!!!!!!!!!!
Question when these young ladies go out into the working world and these business places have their dress code are they still going to do as they please?
When an employer states they do not want tight clothing, extensions, heavy make up etc. and the employee does not comply and get sent home, are they going to bring their parents or to argue over nonsense?
Imagine….. The parents will most definitely have to deal with the monsters they are creating.
Y’all are not getting that it’s not about “doing as they please.”
It’s that the restriction was unreasonable. Gotdamn!
Y’all skulls thick nf.
Getting more hairstyle options won’t create a monster although you all desperately want that.
Y’all just love to see people be unreasonably controlled.
After reading all these comments I truly understand why Antigua is such a SHITHOUSE. No wonder a politician who was in office for 50 years and really and truly did not do anything but took care of himself could be celebrated by both Government and Opposition as someone to emulate. QUO VADIS ANTIGUA
The Ministry of Education is worried about lawsuits and since they manage all public schools, you cannot have one set of rules for AGHS, another for AGS, yet others for PMS, JSC, CHSS.
AGHS is not a private institution.
I get the – give an inch take a yard, give a yard take a mile idiom.
Is permed hair banned or just hair styles pertaining to a particular class of people? Can they wear an Afro? If for whatever reason a child went through chemotherapy, lost all of their hair and decided to go bald to support other cancer victims would they be required to wear a wig to cover up? Remember, a wig is technically hair extensions sewed or glued to a mesh or net.
Lastly, the argument in regards to growing up too fast, if I’m not mistaken a majority of these girls are over the age of 16years by the time they graduate from High School; yet, some of these girls if they so choose can begin physical sexual intercourse with an adult male at 16 years and legally start a family even before they [technically] graduate from High School. Correct me some body, somebody, any body anybody, if I’m wrong.
Lawsuits are what the Ministry of Education are avoiding. Once you met all of the academic criteria to receive your diploma, piece of paper or sheep skin, it’s ILLEGAL for whatever reason to deny you such. Emotions do not win lawsuits, a policy of an institution is not the ‘law,’ of the land.

Though I see both sides of the issue, I have greater concerns about my former school, and also the whole public school system.
The uniform is out of date and inappropriate. The material is poor because it becomes bleached out with constant washing and eventually looks disgusting. The style is poor. The large girls obviously look uncomfortable in it. The buttons are straining and the waistlines make them look pregnant.
The facilities are very poor. It is not appropriate for a young lady to be using the toilet and has to ask another to man the door for her because she cannot close it from the inside.
The water situation is horrible. Plenty put on top of put is going on in those toilets. Some of them don’t go to school or leave school when they have their period.
Instead of giving back the money for the exam subjects which was already paid this year, it could have been used to improve the school plants. They are in terrible condition.
Finally, it would seem that whatever is voted in the budget for education is not with our children’s early education in , but to enhance the vanity of the leadership to enlarge his university.
He obviously does not understand the principles of succession planning in education, and that there is a reason why this present order – kindergarten, primary, secondary, tertiary – was created to enhances the nation’s educational integrity. This order is used universally and invested in for success.
What we are seeing in our education system is the focus is placed on the tertiary stage. It appears that, no matter what, we must have a university, and to hell with standards in the other three stages.
This will definitely have serious consequences.
Thank you Vangie for standing up for what you believe, and to theministryof Educationfor makingitpossible ,Common sense must prevail.
Always wishing people children bad, you all must stop washing you all nasty tinking mouth on people children.
I agree with the decision to allow the children to graduate. Some principal and teachers are just badminded, jealous and down right evil. Some of you all old bitches just jealous of young people. Stock market n slavery mentality.
Leave the young people let them express themselves, Stop judging and wishing people children bad.
I don’t know why someone would want to appear differently in their Yearbook photo than they normally do. Your classmates would probably want to remember you as they interacted with you normally daily. For graduation day itself though, I can understand wanting to glam up a little bit. I agree with the Director, the punishment was a bit harsh though. They could have just been given a good old fashioned demerit or detention or something for breaking a minor rule. No need to deprive them of their momentous occasion.
