Attorney General Updates Parliament on Viral Police Brutality Investigation
Attorney General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin addressed Parliament today, providing an update on an ongoing investigation into a widely circulated video allegedly depicting police brutality.
The Attorney General assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly examined, with Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Jeffers overseeing the probe. He emphasized that the government has called for a full investigation and will make an official statement upon its conclusion.
“I wish to let the public know that this government has seen the video. We have called for an investigation, and at the end of that process, an appropriate statement will be made,” Benjamin stated, acknowledging the widespread discussion the incident has generated across the country.
During his parliamentary remarks, Benjamin also introduced the Police Bill of 2025, aimed at modernizing law enforcement legislation in Antigua and Barbuda. The bill proposes a significant change—the rebranding of the police force as the “Police Service”—to reflect a shift toward a more community-oriented and service-driven approach to law enforcement.
He noted that the existing Police Act, originally passed in 1952, has remained unchanged for 73 years, despite significant developments in law enforcement.

Police investigating police, strangest thing in our justice system
Can we get more details about this socalled investigation?
Let’s be clear, when given a lawful order by the police, the person must abide
Investigate what exactly?
The truth is the officer asked him to move. that was lawful order, the officer then informed him he was being placed under arrest. I dont think the force was excessive at all
The persons in the video condeming the police. why you guys never urged the old man to abide by the instructions of the police?
O, what rough hands doth justice now employ,
That age and frailty meet with such disdain?
To hurl a man, whose weary years do cloy,
Unto the dust, as if he were but bane!
Where is the mercy that should sweeten law,
Or wisdom that in patience ought to dwell?
Hath reason fled, and left but force to draw
A scene more fit for some unholy spell?
Yet mark thee well, for time doth ever turn,
And those who cast the old in cruel fray,
May find their fortune in the selfsame urn,
When youth’s fair bloom hath long since fled away.
They better do something about it
i am waiting for that statement which may never come
This is going nowhere, similar the Dwayne George and the Post Office matter.
