AG Says Antigua and Barbuda Safest in the Region

Attorney General and Minister of National Security Sir Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin says Antigua and Barbuda remains the safest country in the region, boasting the lowest crime rate among its Caribbean neighbors.

Speaking Thursday night at a town hall meeting in Seaview Farm, held for All Saints West MP Hon. Anthony Smith Jr., Benjamin credited strong policing and community partnerships for maintaining public safety.

“Despite all the talks that have been said, Antigua and Barbuda is the safest country in this part of the hemisphere. We have the lowest crime rate, the lowest crime rate for civil offenses, and that cannot be challenged,” Benjamin told the audience.

He encouraged residents to take a proactive stance against crime by forming neighbourhood watch groups, staying alert, and reporting suspicious activity.

“I’m asking you, please, to organize yourselves into neighborhood watches,” he said. “Look and see if there are any strange persons in the community. Get groups organized. When you see a strange person, call your neighbor.”

Benjamin also announced that the government plans to increase police patrols and install additional streetlights in areas such as Bellevue Estate to enhance visibility and deter criminal activity.

The Attorney General praised MP Smith for his “love for people and dedication to community development,” noting his advocacy for young people and ongoing collaboration with national security officials.

The town hall, which drew a large turnout from All Saints West, featured presentations from senior members of the Cabinet, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, who provided updates on government projects in the constituency.

  1. Colossal liar. A simple google search will show Antigua is not even in the top ten. Barbuda on the other hand is very low and would probably be in the top three if they weren’t linked to Antigua statistically.
St. Barts, Curaçao, the Cayman Islands, Anguilla even Barbados is ahead of Antigua!

  2. Where is the data to backup your statement? I tend not to belive much that comes from you, or any politician. Sweet talk the electorate, then kick them down when the election is offset.

BTW, how were the roads to get to the town hall meetings? You guys took time to type the area?

I guess the large SUV and pickups got you along your way, and cushioned the bumps and holes along the way

  3. This man is such a deluded old fool. Every now and then he trots out these regional figures to try to appease concerned Antiguans.

I’m sure this is the 3rd or 4th time he’s tried to shove these regional stats at us this year. Idiot!

What we want more of right here right now is foot patrols, 24 hours of visible policing – especially at nights.

We have eyes and ears and we are witnessing the current rise in criminality. Benjamin’s TALK on regional crime rates and figures just doesn’t cut it anymore.

As I said “we have eyes and ears” Benjamin!

  4. More smoke and mirror BS.

Mr AG.why don’t you tell the people the percentage of the increase that crime has escalated to over the past 10 years.

Crime going up in any society is not a good thing you idiot..the lowest in the Caribbean (even though that’s a big fat lie) doesn’t address the alarming rate of robbery and violent crime in Antigua.

Is this what we a paying this joker to do, come in front your face and spread this boldfaced misinformation?

These slick tongue people needs to stop.

  5. … And I guarantee you that before the year ends, Benjamin will again spewing out more spurious figures to make people living here think that crimes are the lowest of the low.

Another out of touch “gilded caged” ABLP politician who thinks Antiguans are still nieve … not anymore Benjamin, not anymore.

  6. Absolutely correct @Islanman26.

I’m no mathematician, but as you highlighted in your forthright comment, and you can bet your last dollar that the percentage of crimes in the last decade has sky rocketed. At a guess it would be in the high four figures, percentage wise.

Keep doing you @Islanman26. We both want a better future for all Antiguans away from duplicitous and disingenuous politicians. 👏🏾

  7. @brix.

You for one, @Ras Smood, and a few other patriotic people on this forum has given me great hope for the future of Antigua..I am no politician, but I’m a advocate for good living and the rights of the poor.

I will continue to voice my oppion about this type of blatant miscarriage of government and justice, not just in Antigua, but anywhere I can reach with my voice.

I am thankful for social media that allow our voices to reach far and wide.

You also keep prodding along good soilder. The battle is hard, but Necessary.

  8. Doesn’t AG care about the feelings of the public, the nightmare folks are in, in Antigua and Barbuda? They are not in other places, they are suffering from the crime rate of Antigua and Barbuda and not those of other countries while in Antigua and Barbuda.

Quoting numbers of other countries is time being wasted in this case on other countries instead of the pain, suffering, victimization and crimes of Antigua and Barbuda. I keep telling this AG Steadroy Cutie Benjamin to stop comparing bad with bad.

Focus on the problems they have and not the problems they do not have by talking about other countries. How does that help Antiguans and Barbudans in Antigua and Barbuda?

  9. @my way.

Caring has never been this administration strong suit. They got into office because they are heartless and corrupt, and are very good at spending that corrupt money to win elections.

    Facts!!!

  10. Just imagine the man has been fooling people and getting re-elected for how long?
Beyond his false ascertains of crime rates he is also encouraging vigilantes.
Last night ABLP had campaign platform type town hall meeting
They went out to behind Anthiny Smith trying to boost him against Lovell.
Watch out for them throwing everything they have in the All Saints West Constituency.

  11. @ Countryman Abroad
That’s how they keep beating Lovell, they spend money as though it’s going out of style in the constituency, they have never beaten him fairly yet because not one of them in the ABLP can measure up, not the so-called Top Dawg and not Chet Greene so the only they have going for them is the largesse which is unlimited
