Wehner Urges Community Action Following Chantel Crump’s Murder

George Wehner has called on residents to unite in the fight against crime following the brutal murder of Chantel Crump. Speaking at a town hall meeting at the Glanvilles Community Centre, Wehner emphasized the need for stronger community vigilance and greater police presence to enhance safety.

“We are at a watershed moment in our respective communities,” George Wehner said. “It is unfortunate that it took this tragedy to galvanize us, but we must take action now.”

He reassured residents that no acts of retaliation would occur but insisted that the community must send a strong message against criminal activity. Reflecting on previous violent incidents, including the murder of a 13-year-old girl near Devil’s Bridge, Wehner stressed the urgency of implementing security measures.

Proposals outlined at the meeting included:

  • Relocating the Willikies Police Station to better serve the constituency.
  • Assigning security personnel at schools during peak hours.
  • Increasing both vehicle and foot patrols in the community.
  • Advocating for legislative changes to strengthen child protection laws.

Wehner urged residents to restore a culture of collective responsibility, referencing past times when communities looked out for one another. He encouraged the formation of neighborhood watch groups and closer collaboration with law enforcement to deter crime.

A petition demanding immediate government action circulated during the meeting, with residents providing their contact details to establish a security network.

While emotions ran high, Wehner cautioned against unlawful actions, emphasizing that law enforcement must be allowed to carry out investigations. He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting the police while actively working on crime prevention strategies.

The meeting concluded with a call for volunteers to assist in organizing security initiatives and strengthening community safety efforts.

  3. No good will come from violent behavior is very painful plus I have a daughter by the name of Chantel alive and one that’s dead so for me this is sticking in my head just be peaceful be vigilant I’m sorry the little girl had to lose her life but her death is not going to be in vain and all the other people who died their that is not going to be in vain stay strong my brothers and sisters peace with blessings

  4. A very important step in the fight against crime is the naming of streets and numbering of houses.
If that is done whenever an ert is sent out a direct location will be given and residents will know exactly where they are going. However that would minimize the chances of ALP winning a fair elections so it is not anpriority.
The labour party is not interested in the welfare of Antigua.
They live for the next elections and hope to buy it.

  5. YOU and I are going to have to fork out large sums of money for the Money-Hawk’s defense after he had his fill of the Alfa Nero loot and you couldn’t find your voice but you are trolling Wehner for doing what the Attorney General has refused to do.
