The family of Achazia James, who was violently killed almost two months ago, is distancing itself from a change.org petition calling for justice for the teenager, and wants the petition to be removed.
A petition was started on October 15 under the caption “Justice for Achazia James” by John Higgens, was started on Tuesday the after the 15-year-old was laid to rest. However, James’s mother Asabi Charles told Observer that she does not know the person who started it.
“I know nothing about the petition and I do not know who is John Higgens. I am not aware of it, I am really not aware of what is going on,” Charles told our newsroom.
“It disturbs my spirit to know that you would go out there and do something like that without reaching out to the family,” she added.
The petition which is directed to the “Antigua and Barbuda Police Headquarters (National Headquarters- Antigua Royal Police Force)” outlines several reasons why the petition matters.
It is calling for swift and decisive action in the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the brutal murder of the teenager.
However, Charles wants the petition to be taken down as the police continue to investigate the incident.

What sort of parent or family would distance itself from a petition calling for justice for a murdered child!!!! Do they really want justice or are they happy that itnis not being solved? Do they already know the culprits? Have they ditched the cutlass and other weapons used to commit such a savagery act? Can we call on anyone in government to tell us if the killers have reached out to them for refuge and protection and where did they advise that the hot murder weapon be disposed of?
The parents of this big woman need to come to their senses. They want to control every single thing regarding reporting on that child’s death. They are using a tragedy to wield power under normal circumstances, no one would pay attention to them.

This very much #public murder is not just, the immediate family concern. As, a matter of fact, the very morning when the victim’s body was recovered; and, I’ll ASSume {Lt. Columbo was one of my crime fighting hero, as a kid. As, a matter of fact, I just got thru binging on about the first ten seasons; and, many of those criminals which he caught – scripted of course; though, he was an ASSuming asshole. A…all family members, including parents to adopted family etc should’ve have being questioned from the morning the body was found until now.
One reason for doing this is, statistically, victims of crimes of this nature knows the perpetrators- MOTIVE lies close to home.
B…Actually, in my opinion The Petition should be pertaining to ALL UNSOLVED MURDER CASES, since, ALL crimes and criminal activities are of, and rightly so, MUST be of PUBLIC CONCERN.
It’s the PUBLIC which pays for the investigations. Yes REWARDS are offered, but such goes to those who provide concrete/credible, information which holds up in the Courts.
It’s the public which makes it easier for law enforcement to solve crimes.
C..while this particular family is entitled to their privacy and period to greave, as they wish, the longer it takes to solve a crime, the more likelihood the Case can become cold and those responsible may not be punished for their deeds.
This is a very interesting case, particularly because of the #POLITICAL OVERTONES which have being injected into it. It is one which has the potential, to get INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION, from law enforcement agencies and watchdog groups which deals with HUEman Rights. It’s something which MUST come with any developing Nation of Ours, since, we do not have the immediate RESOURCES (monetary, equipments, personnel) to handle all of the fast growing criminal activities in the Nation.

Been following the discussion surrounding this matter with much interest. Crime and violence are public health matters. There is nothing private about it. This child was cut down in a most savage and brutal way and my take is whatever can be done to bring the perpetrator to justice ought to be done. If this case not kept alive and in the public domain, is likely to go cold like many other such cases. In the meantime, the killer is still out there in our communities enjoying life as if nothing happened.
While I understand the family’s need for privacy, this and all murders are public matters and the general public have a right and an obligation to get involved and see to it that the person who did this is quickly apprehended. The longer the killers remain out there, the more dangerous it is for all our children and family members.
We must all be intricately involved in this and all murder cases and see that justice is done. No one’s death, particularly a little 15 year old child should just go for nothing.
As a country, we are too darn docile. 108 square miles and we can’t find killers. We need to support any petition in this case and in every case where the murderers are still at large. This is not against the family but it is in support of the family. They deserve to know who killed their love one and why and we need to get them off the streets quickly.
The political overtones in this case are causing people to loose sight of the focus. The focus ought to be the little princess, brutally and savagely murdered in the most horrific way. Though she cannot come back, her family and the society at large owes it to her to find her killer or killers.
I totally agree it’s a public matter. I agree with Ras Mood, am a Columbo Fan, that all close relatives should have been questioned as a process of elimination. It’s unfortunate that the parents or guardian doesn’t understand what’s going on and it’s really not about them but it’s about justice in general and the way crimes are investigated or lack thereof in the twin island case. This may be another cold case as so with the others.
The gangs seems to have a platform so if this is related to gangs, that’s another issue because the Police Commissioner seems to have no power as it relates to his duties and responsibilities as a Public Servants.
It’s unfortunate that the victims mother cannot see the value of such an endeavor.
However, it is quite understandable that she may not be thinking clearly as this time. 🙏
