Young Woman Killed in Old Parham Road Collision

A woman identified as Huneka Benjamin of Johnson’s Village has died following a traffic collision near the CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank on Old Parham Road.

According to initial reports, Benjamin was attempting to exit the bank’s parking lot when a westbound Lexus, allegedly speeding, struck her Toyota Vitz. The force of the impact reportedly sent the Lexus careening into an adjacent lot.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details are expected as inquiries continue.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Benjamin, whose death has sent shockwaves through her community.

  1. Tragic loss for a family. I pray strength in this time. These drivers need to understand that reckless driving doesn’t pay…..

  2. I pray strength to her family! How can someone be speeding so recklessly that they killed someone. How’s the Lexus driver doing?

  3. Antigua 🇦🇬 police be making joke with these reckless drivers. Like i always say if a reckless drivers hurt my family members or love one them going dissappear..on God !!! The sniper squad on the way …yall f***ing ridiculous now .

  4. All idiots on the road anytime after 10pm. I was just about to go bank myself to get something to get something to eat then I saw this and said nope drop my keys.

  5. Too much smoking and driving have these people like idiots. There should be a ban on smoking in public and while driving. My Sincere Condolences to her family.

  6. I sympathize, and those little cars are the economical quick thing to get but are not mechanically sound protection wise for highway, any impact in those are sure recipe for disaster, a lot of people always get critical injury in them. If those were on the highway in the USA they be blown off the road.

  7. This is soo sad, I could only imagine what her family and loved ones are going through. Condolences to her family and loved ones.
I’ve witnessed what I would call crazy driving on these roads that my heart would skip a beat! Everyone is in a hurry, not being courteous, don’t want to wait their torn and the list goes on. I would say no manners at home and in public.
Last week I saw this driver a man looking at a young woman in All Saints and his vehicle coming towards the vehicle I was in , my son have to hug the side road to avoid a collision . Drivers please pay attention when you’re driving . ” PLEAS” A family is in moaning. I just put myself in their place and just felt sad about the whole thing. Rest in peace princess 😢

  8. One thing I’ve always noticed is these drivers speeding in areas they shouldn’t be speeding like antigua isn’t that big where could you be going in such a rush? Now because of this two life is over one dead and if the other survives he/she will surely get life in prison for murder and reckless driving.

  9. We allowed the unlimited supply of cheap junk from Japan. So now 50% of the drivers are first timers. And they are young. We now have more vehicles than roads or parking. And in the midst of this we have no traffic police. They only emerge for accidents and to escort funerals.
Guyana has cameras that monitor, photograph and automatically send out charges for speeding and seat belt not being worn. And while on traffic, when will be have a law restricting where businesses and bars can be located. Look at the traffic nightmare in Pigotts. Land Strip in an a very and dangerous bend.

  11. How can anyone in their right mind be driving at such a high speed on Old Parham Road? That is above the speed limit. The driver has to be high out on the good weed or under the influence of alcohol or some strong drugs.
My condolences to her family. May God comfort and strengthen them all. May her soul rest in peace.

  12. If it’s speeding west won’t the vehicle be on the opposite side of the road.
Either way this is a really sad moment for the family and all involved

  13. i won’t say the Lexus driver was reckless.

When turning onto a major highway you should do so in a safe manner so as not to cause a collision with vehicles already on that major motorway.

    Please drive safely

  14. Another result of smoking weed while driving. I am convinced of that. The weed had done more harm than good because they have no control over themselves.

  15. @Eldread – I was considering getting my wife a Vitz but your comment, and what I already know has encouraged me to consider something else. My condolences to the family. I know them personally

  16. Should see how they drive through Swetes and Buckleys in the mornings, need to have police posted up day and night for speeding government will surely make money because these drivers don’t learn at all.

  17. Smoke and fly drivers in ANU. Too much weed head roun the place.
Man a drive with spliff inna mouth an a fly.
Good jon Mr. PM, a you legalize the herbs now in way outa control !
Deal with the mess that you created !

  18. Condolences to the family of the deceased.

@Eldread, your moniker is misleading because it is not wise counsel. The 2025 Toyota Vitz and its predecessors has an international NCAP 5-star safety rating which is equivalent to North America’s NHTSA 5-star safety rating, the highest rating for safety and performance.

The 2025 Toyota Vitz has a higher safety rating than the Ford Escape, Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300, GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Malibu, the list is endless. Toyota has provided affordable and safe vehicles since 1937; the Toyota brand is not a newcomer to the automotive market, a market which scrutinizes every automobile produced for use by the international consumer.

  19. As a former Head of the traffic department I must make some things clear here.
1….. I see person refer to old Parham road as a major highway.
It is not a highway, you can call it a major road.
2…. there can’t be a highway in a buildup area.
3…… from my experience and training 99 % of fatality by motor vehicle accidents occurred because of speed.
4…. for that matter,WE DON’T REALLY HAVE HIGHWAY in ANTIGUA and BARBUDA.
We have major road and minor road or
Or main road and side road.
Highway roads are really roads that can take you , “CROSS COUNTRY”
We named roads highway in Antigua and Barbuda but in reality they aren’t.
