Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the Antigua Commercial Bank (ACB) has approved a EC$100m loan to fund extensive road works and infrastructure upgrades across the country.
Speaking on Point FM, Browne said the documentation for the loan was being finalised and that disbursement would begin shortly. He described the investment as a major step in improving Antigua’s road network, drainage systems and public spaces.
The Prime Minister said the programme would also include new solar-powered street lighting and the demolition of derelict buildings as part of wider beautification efforts. He added that the initiative aimed to give Antigua “a new look,” with safer, well-marked and properly lit roads.

Gaston Browne ABLP is borrowing money like a woman does who is getting BBL Brazilian Butt Lift, breast augmentation, tummy tucks to keep up with the jones. Yet in the long run as these unnatural enhancements wear out and start to leak like a sore foot oozing pus and stinky, so too will these loans as they become due. Higher taxes, poorer public services, more frustration will set in.
Please tell us what amount of money borrowed since 2014 for road projects? Antigua people really enjoy mismanagement. Also tell us the amount of loans your administration took from 2014 to now? What is our national debt and break down to whom these monies are owed and at what interest rate ? Since you belive in transparency as you said in the past , these questions can be answered by you easily as the PM and finance minister.
Wait!!!!! With all the road works going on all over the place I thought we had gotten the money already.
Well that’s good to see we were not fully dependent on it then
ALL I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS:
WHO is/are the contractor(s)?
Was this Project ever put to tender?
Which roads will receive renovation and when?
This is exactly the type of infrastructure project that boosts the economy. Roads matter more than people think.
EC$100 million is a lot, but our roads are in desperate need. Safety for drivers is the priority.
This is the 3rd time this government borrowing $100,000,000.00 TO FIX ROADS, so what did they use the first two sets of $100,000,000.00 for?
To line their pockets and enrich themselves but now using tax payers money when the monies should have been available as motor taxes were being paid prior to increases?
Lord HELP US ALL. This ya a one total rip off and Antiguans you won’t rise up? Time to take a stand and RISE UP.
… and BTW, isn’t this the same Prime Minister that castigated the UPP for going to the IMF with cap in hand to borrow money?
Yet Browne is borrowing money 💰 left, right and centre, and at a rate of knots, with an eye-watering return rate that will hit the hardworking taxpayers for decades to come yet again.
But not to worry my fellow articulate Antiguans, his supporters will come out from under their bushels and inform the nation that Browne is still doing an amazing job.
ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE MI BACK FOOT!!!
What are the terms and conditions of this loan PM?
Did you take a 5 year moratorium on this loan as well?
If you’re now getting these funds, where did the money come from to be doing all this road infrastructure that you started? Certainly not from a treasury!
This is awesome news. No more broken axles( or necks for that matter) from dropping into craters…I mean potholes. Please be sure to pay that loan back as promised using the additional vehicles fee. Progress looks good on Antigua.
One thing is for sure, is that these goon cops GB and Cutie have out there doing their biddings, will come after those monies like white on rice. I guarantee the next thing to come, is more check points and road blocks to check if vehicle’s are licensed.
Yes folks, this man wants to be the biggest dictator in the Caribbean, by forcing his will on people. The people didn’t even have any say in these tax hikes, he just force them down y’all throats. Same thing he did with all his policies over the past years..just look at his history. The Alpha Nero, the Antigua Airways debacle, raising the ABST, Lait20, Social Security, higher vehicle licensing fees. And the list is endless.
Just look at the man’s track record. Everything was forced down y’all throats. No transparency whatever.
This is how this big-headed man governs..the same guy who teargas his own people for exercising their right to assembly.
He has already aligned himself to Donald Trump policies, so go figure. “When someone shows you who they are, believe them”
