ABWU Women’s Council hosts Seminar on Self-Care and Mental Health

Self-care and mental health were the focus of a mini-seminar hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Women’s Council on Wednesday.

In attendance was a cross-section of women from the Union’s membership, eager to gain insight and understanding on how to improve their quality of life.

Clinical Psychologist Feona Charles-Richards delivered a gripping presentation that covered several key areas, including building powerful sisterhoods, healing from past traumas, cultivating self-awareness in mind and body, being intentional, and practicing mindfulness.

Her presentation was followed by an interactive session during which participants shared personal experiences and lessons aimed at deepening bonds and empowering one another.

Attendees also benefited from a session conducted by ABWU Women’s Coordinator Hazel Luke, which reinforced practical strategies for self-care. Using a hands-on exercise, Luke encouraged women to focus their energy on things within their sphere of control as a strategy for maintaining peace and balance.

Participants expressed deep appreciation for the seminar — the first activity since the reconstitution of the ABWU Women’s Council in August.

“Tonight was very empowering. It was a reminder of our self-worth and the importance of self-love,” one participant shared.

The ABWU Women’s Council remains committed to accelerating the development of women and promoting their active participation at every level in the world of work. The Council is expected to host a series of impactful activities in the year ahead.
