ABWU President Highlights Workers’ Rights at Regional Telecoms Conference
Kem Riley, President of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU), this week participated in the 7th Regional Conference of UNI Americas ICTS, where union leaders from across the Caribbean convened to discuss the future of the telecommunications sector.
Riley was joined by regional counterparts Andre Lewis of St Lucia and Ruddy Thomas of Jamaica.
Together, the delegates shared perspectives on the evolving challenges faced by telecoms workers throughout the Caribbean.
In his address to the conference, Riley delivered a presentation examining the implications of advancing technology on employment in the sector.
He drew particular attention to the impact of Liberty Global’s operations in Antigua and Barbuda, stressing the need for continued engagement to safeguard workers’ rights amid rapid digital transformation.
The conference provided a platform for unions to coordinate efforts, reaffirming their collective commitment to protecting workers and ensuring fair labour practices across the telecommunications industry.
