SOURCE: ANTIGUA OBSERVER- Most of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT) executive will remain in place following Tuesday’s Triennial General Elections, with members said to be highly satisfied with the leadership’s performance and advocacy efforts over the past few years.

“The morale is pretty high at this time,” re-elected President Casroy Charles told Observer media.

“We would have received numerous commendations as to the effectiveness of the current executive. Most persons would have told us to keep up the good work and for the first time in their experience, in some cases, they have seen the Union being this forceful and this present as it relates to advocating for the rights and interests of teachers,” he explained.

Several key positions were uncontested in the April 29 elections held at the Clare Hall Secondary School Auditorium, including the president, first vice president, general secretary, treasurer, and deputy treasurer roles.

Charles outlined immediate priorities for the executive’s new term saying, “The immediate plan will be a continuous effort to ensure that all outstanding payments that are owed to teachers are paid in a timely manner, as well as the continuous education of the membership as it relates to employment relations so that we can experience a harmonious relationship in regards to employees and employer going forward.”

The complete elected executive comprises Charles, the President, Robyn Joseph-Nathaniel as 1st Vice President, and Aubreyann Miller-Ralph as 2nd Vice President. Sharon Kelsick will serve as General Secretary, with Rochelle Peters as Deputy General Secretary. Renata Joseph has been elected as Treasurer and Keith Gordon as Deputy Treasurer. The Members-at-Large positions will be filled by Javere Steele, Delina Greene, and Brenda Cochrane, while Labrisca Walker and Ranella Nicholas will serve as Trustees.

The new executive will be officially installed at the upcoming Annual General Conference scheduled for May 29 at the John E St Luce Finance & Conference Centre.
