The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party will hold two polls in All-Saints West to determine the primary winner after concerns were raised about irregularities in the voting process.
Lamin Newton led with 157 votes, followed by Regis Burton with 142 and Arry Simon with 60 votes.
Burton’s letter to the ABLP highlighted voting process irregularities, including the requirement for a candidate to secure a majority to win outright, which neither Newton nor Burton achieved.
As a result, the party will conduct a poll to determine the true winner, who will serve as the caretaker for All Saints and be the party’s candidate in the next general elections.

This just adds to the confusion and dilemma that started as a so called Primary. Not adhering to the initial agreement signed by all the candidates has made all this chaos and confusion even more pronounced. A secret poll to be conducted by Peter Wickham and Don Anderson will NOT resolve anything. He who pays the piper, calls the tune. The results of the poll will be exactly a reflection of what the party hierarchy wants. Both candidates should be dismayed, annoyed and perplexed at this development. This is clearly the party’s way of appeasing dejected and angry supporters of both camps but will only add more fuel to the fire.
@ Audley Phillip,
Isn’t this both a demonstration and an admittance of the fact that the ALBP is so lacking when it comes to elections, that they can’t run a clean primary election among themselves?
This is a travesty and a disgrace to the ALBP.
I have never heard a poll being used to determine the winner or outcome of what is supposed to be a popular vote.
Are they admitting they can’t trust themselves to conduct a honest run-off among the leading candidates?
Are these the same people ABLP who had a lot to say and write, when a candidate for leadership of the opposition, received a few endorsements which were made public?
I find it interesting that Wickham and Company who presents themselves are polling experts and political analysts; did not have much to say on the UPP candidate’s endorsement issue as it was made into a controversial topic.
They Wickham snd Company have made themselves look like political mercenaries, rather than professional pollsters.
Below is the full text of the letter sent to Regis Burton by the ABLP General Secretary after the Primary which Mr Burton queried by way of a letter to the General Secretary:
Dear Comrade Burton:
Your correspondence was read, and I surprised that you would state that the final list had discrepancies which you outlined when you got the list on March 4th, and they were rectified.
There were duplicate names and I told you, I would not remove them because persons have the same names and you agreed. It was verified last night where several people showed up with the same name.
You stated that Labour Party members were eliminated from the list. This happened because they were not financial.
I invited you to come in with the names that you said were omitted and view the raw data. You gave me the list, I checked, and they were added. You never objected to the list. Last night you spoke to me about one individual. I could not verify, and the person was not allowed.
Regarding the number of votes that were casted last night, the only numbers that matter are the ones that came out of the ballot boxes which I took the extra steps to ensure the security of the votes casted. All 3 agents signed the tape before the count started. Agents and Secretariat could have made an error in checking off but for certain, the ballot papers that went in the box were verified by the Supervisor of Election and the Auditors.
Regarding the letter that was signed. The Executive should decide. It is clear what was signed, and you should present yourself to the Executive and make your case.
I will be out of the state for a few weeks but upon my return, I will take instructions from the executive.
Yours in Comradeship,
General Secretaryear Comrade Burton:

@ Gaston and Chet
All they behaving with, Gaston and Chet HAVE GUARANTEED THE SEAT TO LAMIN THE DECEIVER AND HYPOCRITE.
BURTON DEM NA WANT U. CAN’T U SEE THAT.
How can you conduct a poll to determine who the true winner ?
ONLY IN THE ABLP AND UNDER GASTON. They pretending that the primary is above board- yeah right!
ANYTHING ABLP DOES IS RIDDLED WITH CORRUPTION.
@ AUDLEY Phillip , Winston Southwell and BRIXTONIAN keep to hell out ABLP business. Study those DUNCEY BAT , CRIMINAL ELEMENTS in UPP.
Winston Southwell , I shall advise Hon. Gaston Browne to SUE your AR****SE for comments you made a few days ago.
@INTACT
A SHAME HAB R U SO! ABLP laundry tink lakka shit cart wagon rolling through St. John’s.
ABLP – DEM TIEF! DEM TIEF! DEM TIEF!
Welcome…. Your stupidity is really INTACT
Gaston Browne knows what the real issue is with these transactions.
Why would he want to expose both his son and his wife to testify on the real issue that the assets of a public benefit corporation was transferred to his son in the form of bogus sale which effectively is a gift.
He is trying his level best to hide what is a gift from WIOC to his son which is the real issue. Not the DCA lease.
A NO DOWN PAYMENT PURCHASE with a ready tenant DCA in place doing their own Reno and installations and deferred rent payments is a gift from WIOC to the IF Corporations (Gaston’s son)
It appears he became the Owner of this property without a down payment; no tenant upgrade costs, and morgage payments deferred and begins when the tenant DCA starts paying rent.
A writ for all the files is enough to give Gaston pause.
His normal sissy fit and and deranged personality is likely to be his only reaction or the answer from him in spite of your wishes and advice.
I say bring it on.
@INTACT
When you advise Gaston, both of you should consider the following:
Anyone can sue. They need to have something to sue about, and be comfortable they want the details public.
Should he sue I’ll be glad to prove my case as the libel deformation laws require.
Gaston has to produce the files when a writ is issued to produce all the files surrounding these transactions.
Gaston don’t want that.
The files will prove-out that these transactions as structured effectively as a sale which is really a gift from WIOC to IF Corporation his son facilitated by a DCA lease.
He does not want to go there. Unfortunately you missed what this transaction is about. It’s not a person buying anything and then renting it out.
That’s why Gaston is hoping this issue disappears from the political chatter
It’s a transfer of properties from a public benefit corporation WIOC with a NO DOWN PAYMENT DIFFERED MORTGAGE to a private entity owned by his son.
This is not an arms length transaction between two parties.
It is orchestrated together with a lease with another Government entity DCA; who finances their own build-out and upgrades for deferred rent payments.
WIOC is guaranteed deferred mortgage payments through the DCA lease payments that pay the deferred mortgage payments.
If Corp is in the middle enjoying ownership.
This enables what is a gift to appear as a real estate purchase where the landlord has a ready tenant.
This is like a gift to his son, and Gaston don’t want the details discussed in a Court of law with a case where his son and his wife will have to testify.
These are not arms length transactions; they are worse than insider trading.
You are among many who don’t understand what’s going on here with WIOC, IF Corp and DCA.
Regis Burton, you should file an injunction in the Courts. The ABLP is trampling all over you and your Rights.
The People to include the INDEPENDENTS will have more respect for you!
ABLP is looking to rebuild. You can become a force to be reckoned with in the not to distant future.
If Regis goes to court about this he will be dismissed from the ALP like Asot. The fix is in for Lamin to become the caretaker of All Saints West; however, if the voters finds being disenfranchised (by this stunt) offensive, they have the power to reject Lamin at the polls on the next election.
Regis Burton u suppose to be a sensible young man so why would you want to align yourself with with thieves, check how they treating you already, proving them thiefingness to you .
