ABLP Selects Benjamin for St Mary’s North, Beazer to Contest Barbuda Seat

Dr. Philmore Benjamin

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has reportedly selected Dr Philmore Benjamin as its candidate for St Mary’s North, replacing longtime MP Sir Molwyn Joseph, while environmental advocate Kendra Beazer has been chosen for Barbuda.

The candidates are expected to be confirmed at the party’s delegates convention on April 12, amid speculation of a possible snap general election.

Benjamin, a physician who joined the ABLP from the opposition UPP last year, currently serves as a consultant to community clinics. Beazer, a former Barbuda Council member who also transitioned from the BPM, will challenge long-serving MP Trevor Walker.

The selections signal a strategic shift for the ABLP as it prepares for the next election. The party has not held the Barbuda seat since 2017, with the BPM maintaining control, including a sweep of the 2025 Barbuda Council elections.

  1. These UPPites are taking over the ABLP, wonder how the diehards are feeling now, Gaston never thought much of you anyway, just never saw you as good enough. Winston Williams you time will come eventually, just you hold tight backstabber

  2. Wow wow wow No general election’s in Antigua and Barbuda until it is constitutional due in 2028 I don’t like the United States of America but the Western Hemisphere need some changes to get rid of corruption Antigua Dominica will be the first to be purge I guarantee you that if parliament is desolve immediately we will see the change. We will see less than fifty percent vote in the election’s Regime change is a must

  3. My mother used to say: NOTHING LASTS FOREVER
It’s SO good to see the back of Molwyn Joseph’s head. Whilebyou are at it Mr PM, please get rid of the current Permanent Secretary that seemingly blindly follows his every instruction
    Long live GastonBrown

  4. WHERE ARE ALL THE LABOURITES? WHERE ARE ALL THE TRUE COMRADES? WHERE ARE THE DIE-HARDV MEMBERS WHO STUCK WITH THE PARTY UNDER PAPA, UNDER LESTER….EVEN DURING THE TEN YEARS IN OPPOSITION….WHERE ARE THEY? IS THIS GREAT INSTITUTION SO LACKING OF COMPETENT PEOPLE THAT IT HAS TO TURN TO THE OPPOSITION FOR CANDIDATES. HOW MANY OF THE CURRENT ABLP SLATE WERE ONCE CANDIDATES OF THE UPP….HOW MANY? LAST QUESTION , HOW MANY MORE ARE ON THEIR WAY?

  5. @Charlesworth Tabor King Shango’s fire burnt a message in the air and it read TABOR FOR LABOUR is it you or your son who’ll be replacing Dwayne in St. Mary’s South?
Open U mouth, so dat Tory can jump out!
Why does the ABLP of the Gaston Browne era loves former UPP CANDIDATES, was another question posed to King Shango, and his answer was plain, simple and straightforward GASTON do not trust the stalwarts that built the ALP.
Chet Greene must be having nightmares and sleeping in misery, contemplating whether or not, to challenge GASTON BROWNE for the leadership of the ABLP.
Chet fair exchange is no robbery and since you’re been robbed and stopped from performing your civic duty, you can do an even exchange and join the UPP. It ain’t like your political career began with the ALP/ABLP.

  6. Good riddance to Molwyn Joseph for sure due to the immense harm he caused during the Covid-19; and isn’t it just ironic that a highly articulate and former UPP member is set to replace him.

Yet, in recent times when Phil more Benjamin was under the UPP banner he was castigated and vilified (like many other former members) by this ABLP administration.

The destruction and dilution of UPP is real folks!

Politics in Antigua is becoming more like the UK’S with defections left, right and centre.

    WHAT A DAMN MESS…

I cannot believe I was so nieve and didn’t see all this move to an autocratic state coming.

  7. No primary? What about Terri, Bassu and Jeff. I guess they are worst than the bottom of the barrels from the UPP. Not because you are a doctor or lawyer meant you will he a good politician. But this elitist attitude is a serious problem in Antigua. These men thinks that no nobody should be chosen in UPP before them ,hence they sold out . Patients, your doctors and lawyers cant be trusted! The so call life time laborites have no pride . Well the leader say ” just give them a little money in them pocket and papparize them”. Some thing radically wrong with the electorate in Antigua. Lord have mercy !

  8. The work that has been started the ABLP administration must continue to grow the country’s economy and its development. We must be strategic in the way we move forward. You must be electable to get the work done. After all, they’re all Antiguans and should be given a chance in the wake of the disjointed opposition. We have to level up, disregarding all the noises that are seeking relevance. If you can’t get your act together, whom do you blame? The wagon rolls on…. 🚩🚩🚩

  9. I grew up around Dr B, as a matter of fact, there were many a times back in the day when he dropped me to school on his Yahama motorbike. I know his entire family, since myself and his younger brother Berris is around the same age range. Cool awesome dude, great Doctor, and even though I don’t really see him as a politician, I do wish him success as an ABLP Candidate, the utmost best , and all the power, benefits, kickbacks, and forever pension that comes with being a politician. It’s all on you now, so let’s make it work.
