The battle for the Caretaker position in All Saints West continues after two polls. The Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) hasn’t filled the role yet, with a run-off planned in a few months.
In March, Lamin Newton, Regis Burton, and Arry Simon contested for the party’s representative post. Newton, a former UPP caretaker, got 157 votes, while Burton received 142, and Simon got 60 votes.

However, none crossed the 50% mark as per the agreement, leading to a scheduled run-off. Burton raised concerns, but Newton wasn’t interested in the run-off. Two inconclusive polls conducted by Don Anderson and Peter Wickham showed both Burton and Newton winning with a 2% margin.
PM Gaston Browne mentioned a future run-off, aiming for a less hostile process.
The ABLP’s Caretaker position in All Saints West remains vacant, while the UPP’s Anthony Smith Jr. currently represents the constituency.
PM Browne expressed confidence in winning that seat based on poll results.

Lamin should never have been allowed to run on ABLP’s ticket after recently running on UPP’s ticket. They will learn soon. Disloyalty should never be rewarded.
Nobody call my phone to vote…Lamin please give that one that hungry to lead the win please. All they talk about is his uncle’s money!
Wasn’t a run-off the original agreement? I hope fairness and integrity prevails –and voters aren’t paid to vote for either one of the candidates.

What a joke this is! Now it’s back to square on. The very run off that was avoided initially is on the cards again. The credibility of the entire process is called into doubt. In order to restore hope and confidence in the process and for the sake of the candidates involved, I hope that the ABLP would publish the list of persons in ALL SAINTS WEST who are eligible to vote well in advance of the proposed runoff and allow the Electoral Office to manage the poll. If not, this drama will continue and the fallout broadened.
That is what happens when the compition is so close that you cannot say that you have a clear winner. But it shows that the process works. And the two candidates have to do it again. And this time it should be final. Lets see what the constituance are saying.
But I declare my hand. I’m for Regis Burton. He is in it for the right reason. Lamin is in it for he wants to have political power. The little power that he has he is already showing his true colors. Do you know that CMC staff have to bring checks to him where ever he is in order to get them sign. Instead of him going to CMC which would be much easier. But NO he is to powerful so they have to come to him. And that cause the company lots of time to clear containers, or when checks for payroll need to be signed. And his new rule is no check will be issued if he doesn’t sign it. Very arrogant
At the end of the process, it’s the choice of the Autocrat that will prevail. Never mind the sham of a democratic procedure, whatever it takes — money pressure promises etc — the will of the Autocrat will carry the day.
Polls are frequently used not to provide an accurate reflection of public opinion, but indeed to influence such public opinion. When dictators wish to camouflage their meddling, there is a bag of tools they may employ to do so, and polls done by shady paid operatives are just one of the many tools at their disposal.
Whoever finally emerges will be that person that can best be relied on to back up the crookedness and criminality of the Autocrat.
It’s time the citizens and residents of this country understand that there will never be people’s progress under the ABLP. Their mission as a party for and of the people and the nation ended decades ago. Now and for the future it’s just plunder of the resources and labour of the people and nation for the benefit of the Autocrat and his elitist circle. Didn’t he admit it himself? “USE YOUR POSITION TO ENRICH YOURSELF!” His own brazen unapologetic words! Advice never given by any other leader in Caribbean history. Of such stuff are leaders who push your generations into poverty and penury made.
@ Eldridge
Well said.
@ Audley Phillip
And when the minions creating mischief and trying to make the UPP look like in disarray, they are the ones that is in total shambles. They cannot even organise a SIMPLE PRIMARY and run a supermarket like the failed operations for GB and Molwyn. No business acumen whatsoever.
THE ABLP PARTY/ GOVERNMENT IS SO DAM INCOMPETENT.
MAYBE THEY CAN ELECT ‘.’ AS THEIR DEAR LEADER, BECAUSE HE WOULD BE NON-EXISTENT TOO.
I do recall the nasty vitriolic verbosity from the ABLP supporters when they lambasted the UPP’S leadership convention in recent times.
You couldn’t stop them from their negative commenting, and then declaring so much love and affection for our Most Honourable Leader Jamale Pringle.
And now look at what’s happening with the ABLP run-off in All Saints West – this is more than farcical!
Now let’s see if the likes of @ JP; CHILES; Tenman; Dave Ray; Chupes; From the Sideline (me forget, him retire); Curious; Bluddy Bloke; ERIC (THE RED); FERN; OTTO; Fitzroy; Nomad; GILES; and Zackie.
If I’ve missed out any ABLP acolytes or Gastonites, just add them to the list (although they are diminishing faster than you can say “Gaston gone abroad again” 😁)
Hopefully, all the above will be just as keen to have their say on this ludicrous and laughable ABLP calamity that’s taking place in All Saints.
BUT NOT TO WORRY THOUGH, AT LEAST THE MAJORITY OF THEM – INCLUDING GASSSSSTON – DECLARED THEIR LOVE 😍 FOR JAMALE PRINGLE.
Isn’t politics just greeaaat!!!
BRIXTONIAN
You wish you had the BRAINS of Hon. Gaston Browne. Antigua is moving along very well and you keep on with your STUPID RHETORIC. SMATEN UP you fool.
@ JP, Gaston Browne lucky I took the business route instead of a political one; and if you think that the Prime Minister’s brain is SHARPER then mine, you are a BIGGER FOOL than I ever thought possibl.
Never ever forget that I am proud that I warned my fellow Antiguans about the DANGEROUS AstraZeneca 2-3 years ago. Fact!
And today, AstraZeneca has been proven to be highly dangerous. More facts!
And the man who you believe has a better brain than Brixtonian (and other like-minded critical thinkers), ensured that over 60% of the country took this adverse effected trial Covid-19 mRNA jabs.
THE LORD WILL TAKE MY LIFE, BUT NOT AN IGNORANT PRIME MINISTER.
What say you JP?
Keep rolling up that sleeve you idiatt!!!
Oh, and I almost forgot @ JP, that your esteemed leader Gaston Browne made the arrangements to confront fellow Antiguans on 08/08/2024 (Teargas Sunday), including women and children.
BRIXTONIAN WOULD NEVER DO THAT!
*08/08/2021*
Brixtonian tells it like it is … Aieee, mi ah tell unna 😉
Well said @Brixtonian. Let’s see how the red cool aid addicts defend this confusion. Isn’t this a reflection of them? Everything they touch turns to mud.
Imagine them in a convention? Ah, that would be something. Especially if Gassy has a challenger or two.
UPP just ran through a WEEK long convention, announcing the winners the SAME day. These misfits can’t even organize a SINGLE primary.
Eldredge is so on point. I don’t think the DAWG wants Lamina anywhere near an ALP ticket.
@ Watching, you and I know that so many of these ABLP apologists are out of touch with the reality; out of sorts with themselves; and especially out of their minds when BLINDLY allowing Gaston Browne’s lack of transparency and accountability to this great country.
The good thing though, the true and patriotic Antiguans are at last waking up to his dubious ways.
WE JUST HAVE TO TOUGHEN IT OUT WITH THIS NUTCASE, AND GIRD OUR LOINS UNTIL 2028 …
