ABLP mourns death of Ethlyn Winter

THE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA LABOUR PARTY MEDIA STATEMENT

We mourn the loss of our Comrade extrordinaire and elder, Ms. Ethlyn Winter, of Cassada Gardens. The good comrade transitioned earlier this moring, Saturday, 23 August 2025, at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, following a brief illness.

For seven decades, Comrade Winter demonstrated her undiminished love and fealty for the ABLP and the AT&LU by her membership, first as a Juvenile Supporter and, following adulthood, as a member of the Women’s Action Group. The political defeat of the ABLP –especially following the 1968 debacle that led to the splitting of the institution of Labour and the 1971 electoral loss of the ABLP– cemented Comrade Ethlyn Winter’s place as a stalwart of this great institution.She worked tirelessly for the victory of the party.

Comrade Winter’s unstinting support for the Honourable Lester Bird, in the Rural East constituency, marked her as special among the ABLP Women’s Action Group that assured him of victory, in 1976 and again following the 2004  defeat of “the comeback kid.” She never relented in her support for the ABLP and the AT&LU. 

At one of the ABLP Friday night forums, a young comrade began to hiss when Comrade Ethlyn Winter began to speak about the past. The General Secretary immediately intervened to teach the young present about the high regard which the party holds for its elders. Comrade Winter completed her discourse with loud applause following. She spoke softly but with tremendous force.

The ABLP political leader, Honourable Gaston Browne, has already indicated that a special honour, in keeping with the Revised Constitution of the ABLP, will be conferred on this outstanding comrade by the body of the ABLP.

  1. A Tennant or vassal sworn loyalty to a lord, is this a joke? That the word “fealty”is used to describe someone loving parents owing ALP and Gaston as lord of their life?
    We emancipated from sworn loyalty to white slave masters and now power devolve to the black politicians over your life?

  3. Rest In Peace my Dear, you probably could not stand to see the condition in which Gaston and his cohorts have dragged your beloved ALP. Since he and Asot got rid of the brilliant Lester B. Bird and renamed it ABLP it transformed into Antigua and Barbuda Liars Party but do not worry their is hope yet with Chet Greene if he can summon the courage to run for the Leadership

Labor queen from willikies and her family had endorsed Alex brown the last election after they witness how robin took all the lands toeards the sea, and especially how robin sold the lands totalling a thousand acres probably including Ackley’s shop to the white man that asot sold his little property to, robin added small cays of islands out in the water and lorry’s bay and the ponds that use to be water supply for our animals, and don’t forget devil’s bridge lands and batting bay, so labor queen conscience is good.

  6. The UPP’s stained paw-prints are all over the comments submitted so far and only reflects the emptiness of their human spirit and paucity of of their intellect. In their desperation for relevance, they have chosen to besmirch the undying loyalty of the deceased to the political affiliation of her choice and her calm, dignified, unwavering love and support. What a shame! This is the very reason why the UPP will NOT in the foreseeable future take the reins of government in this country. May the soul of departed rest in sweet peace.

  7. Just read the comments so far! Clearly, the disgraced and desperate UPP have, in their mad search for relevance, resorted to their poisoned-pen tactics! How typical! That they would choose this occasion, the death of a LADY, beloved by so many, to spew hate and dissection, as a send-off for this elder daughter of the soil, shows so clearly a band of rogues totally devoid of humanity, a disorganized gang of leaderless vermin. That they would resort to attempt to incite havoc at Constituency level “What about ‘Labour Queen’? Clearly reveals their focus and intent. How pathetic, how shameless!!!

Are you ALP people as you think you are until the creator ask back for the breath of life rented to you never see are hear no wrong when it comes to attacking UPP, but anything towards ALP all of a sudden you have a conscience and heart, YOU EVER SEE WHEN THE FREAK KEEP GOING ON GRIEVOUS MOMENTS IN PEOPLE LIFE WHERE 9 YEAR OLD CHANTEL WAS KILLED OR ANY OTHER FATALITY THAT HAPPENS, AND SIGN IN ABOUT TESSA BARTHLEY OR ASASSINATE MR.BOWEN?????????

  15. So many of the victories we celebrate today were built on the sacrifice of people like Comrade Winter. A real soldier of the cause. Condolences to her family and the ABLP family.

  16. Ethlyn Winter was a true Labour stalwart. Her name was not always in the headlines, but her work behind the scenes kept the movement strong. May she rest in peace.
